Hi all

I took delivery of a Clubsport S last week and can’t help but think the exhaust sounds a little muted for a car of this calibre.

I wondered if anyone had any experience/suggestions for a good exhaust to give it a bit more ooomf.

I have it booked in for spacers and lowering springs soon.

Here is a picture of the beauty (no. 202/400).

Thanks
Charlie

Best trying Facebook , there will be some good owners clubs on There . On ph you will probably get berated for even thinking a 4 pot deserves a new exhaust !

Just go to any good exhaust shop. They will make a custom one for less than a "branded " one from Miltek or Akra or any of that ste.

I'd recommend

Deutschtech
Hard knock speed shop
Infinity exhausts
Emp performance

Should cover most geographical locations.

Imo I'd have a smallish suitcase style silencer and remove the resonator if you're just getting a cat back system.

If you're doing a sports cat then I'd keep a resonator and the smaller suitcase silencer.

If you're really flush you can get valves done so you can have it really quiet and then really loud.

Around £600 for non valved cat back and £1100 for a decat full system and £1500 for sports cat

If you want something off the shelf I'd only get a BCS.

BCS are brilliant and their after sales is very good. All made out of 304 stainless with decent wall thickness, lots of “loudness” options.

I'm thinking of removing the chrome tipped version of this from my mk7 at the moment and going back to stock. It's resonated so not too much noise when motorway cruising or normal driving around town but much louder under acceleration than standard https://www.mountune52.com/collections/mk7-golf-gt.... The car has only done around 500 miles since it was fitted. This is a bit much for me and actually prefer the more subtle sound of the stock exhaust. Also I'm not a fan of the DSG 'fart' sound which this tends to accentuate.

Feel free to PM me if interested -- mods feel free to edit / remove if this is outside of the rules. If you want a specific sound though, as mentioned previously a custom system will be the way forward as they will be able to tune the sound to what you are after. The sound will also be very different between a resonated and non-resonated system so maybe check out some of the many youtube videos out there for the difference in sound (volume is impossible to gauge from youtube though), for some people just a res delete is enough which would be cheaper than options mentioned. Res deletes always seem to be a bit marmite though. There are a few threads on different exhaust systems going on www.golfgtiforum.co.uk. The folks there are also quite friendly if you have any questions. A few CS / CSS owners on there too.

I’ve just put a bcs power valve system on my Edition 30 and it is a very nicely made exhaust, one of the best I’ve seen.
They do different sounding systems from quiet to loud and also have valved options so it wakes up on boost.
They are made to order so a few weeks waiting time is expected.

Thanks for your replies all. That is helpful.

Does anyone happen to have experience of the Remus Rear Box Delete? Been eyeing it up but wanted some experienced comments first. No videos of a CSS with them on YouTube, only anGTI

It's basically the same car so will sound very much identical. Turbo is slightly different so it will be a teeny bit louder and deeper but not much.

I’m now leaning to just going for the Akrapovic slip on exhaust. I think given that seems to be an optional extra on the performance golfs now, that it would fit quite nicely with the rhetoric and not take away from the “special factor” that the Clubsport S has

Are you sure about the spacers and springs?Out of the box it is a beautifully set up car for British roads. Don’t ruin it,

If you want to pay full exhaust price for a cat back, sure.

Akra is incredibly overpriced. No idea why it has such a fan-following.

I'd just go with this.
