Hi. I need a pair of fuel tanks for a Prova Countach project. Black Bull replicas were recommended as being able to supply something suitable, but I am unable to get an answer on 01353 727711.

Can anyone suggest an alternative source?
Perhaps an independant fuel tank manufacturer that has done kit Countach tanks before, and already has pattern/spec.

Thanx, Pum.

PS: anyone know if any Lambo kit makers are going to Newark this weekend? Parallel? Black Bull?

Mock it up in hardboard and then send it to Allyfab??

Ask around your local sheet metal works(see Yellow Pages). Chances are that so long as you can provide a pattern (hardboard would do as eliot suggests) you'll find at least one that can make them.

Ideally you want one with a coded welder and the ability to leak or pressure test the finished tanks.

I phoned the chap at AllyFab. Very nice bloke and very helpful. He will make from plans or pattern. Has never done tanks for Countach, but has done GT40, and other similars. However, his guesstimate was about £800. Said he may be able to do them for less if I can keep the design simple and avoid tight bends (less than 90 degrees). He can make with baffles or foam.

Now got offers of "about £200 per tank" from Brise www.motorsportfabrication.com/index.htm in aluminium, and "probably a bit less than Brise" from Dave Harrison of Mirage in stainless steel.

What are the pros and cons of aluminum compared to stainless steel? Which should I go for?

thanx, Pum.

£800 seems very expensive, although I have no idea of your design. Perhaps you shouldn't of mentioned it was for a Countcash!

Somewhere around £200+ seems about right (that’s all I would pay). Cant help on material recommendations, apart from that Ally is lighter and looks nice if done properly, stainless is easier to modify/repair at a later date.

The tanks are to be mounted outboard of the chassis - I don't know if that affects the choice between Ally and stainless. Brise said they would fit baffles and foam. My mechanic can weld ally, so not a downside there for future work. Further comments of ally vs stainless appreciated.

thanx ,Pum.

I have always run ali tanks and, apart from a drill/late night/brain failure, have never had a problem.

I can also vouch for the quality of Brise's work, having had several things made by them.

Pum,

I've run an alloy tank for 5 years in my GP Spyder and it's just stress fractured for the second time - despite being rubber mounted. Can you give me the number for Mirage please as I'm going to go for stainless/mild steel.

Cheers,

John S.

Dave Harrison at Mirage (I think) does Countach replicas. However, he may be able to do tanks for other purposes. email me for his number:

Even if I could afford a real Lamborghini Countach, I'd have a kit. Unfortunately, they are very unreliable and ferrociously expensive to run/service/maintain. For me, the only thing they have going for them is their shape - just the ultimate!
