this is again on my 2000 daewoo matiz, automatic (gasoline engine).

There is this distinct whirring noise that gets louder when I drive 80 km/h or higher. You don't really hear it
under 80.

I had this noise before and it progressively got worse (meaning louder) until one day while driving this loud
pop sound occurred and suddenly lost power to the wheels but could still drive very slowly, just no power.

I knew it was the transmission and when i took it in apparently the garage told me there was a recall on
my car model's transmission. We got it sent in and I was told they replaced the transmission. This was about
2-3 months ago. Car has been driving fine but I noticed that same noise has started up again recently and seems
to be getting a bit louder each week.... I'm not sure if this sound is related to the transmission or if its just coincidence
the same sound is occurring again and belongs to some other part of the car.

I uploaded a short video so you can hear the sound. If anyone have a listen and tell me where that sound is coming
from....would be helpful. Sounds like a mini helicopter inside there.

If the symptoms are the same as last time I suggest you take it back to the people who fixed it and tell them the problem has come back.

but that's the thing...I don't know if the whirring sound is related to the transmission issue I had previously. There's no conclusive evidence other than to say it happened at the same time (which could have been a coincidence because I'm sure there are other issues with the car).

Again, language barrier is a problem and I don't know or really trust what mechanics say here since they can tell me anything and I'd have no choice but to just agree. The only thing I can do is search online.

It's always good to get a few opinions because obviously nobody can really diagnose the car over the net without seeing, testing it in person. I'm just trying to narrow it down based on the symptoms.

The way you described it in your original post suggested you were clear that they were related.

If you aren't clear, take it back to the person who fixed that problem and ask whether this returning symptom indicates that the problem has come back.

Yes, the sound and the transmission going last time happened at the same time. That's what is clear.
But that doesn't mean the sound and the transmission are directly correlated. It's very likely that same sound
is just something else and occurred during the same time (coincidence). That noise was happening weeks before the transmission popped so it may just have been an unrelated coincidence.

I had taken it to local mechanics around me and basically told me since the make of the car is different (not the same manufacturer as the mechanic's shop) to go to an actual chevrolet mechanic. The only one is in another city.

So on Saturday as I was driving to the city to bring in the car, suddenly after the car was making that noise everyday for last 3 weeks or so, it suddenly stopped making that noise. Wth. I mean, of course it's good that the sound disappeared but why on the day that I'm actualy driving it to the city mechanic does it not make that noise anymore?? I can't take the car in and tell them there is problem/noise and then not have that noise be there. So I just did some grocery shopping and came back home.

So far, the noise still hasn't returned yet after a couple days. I don't get it. I'm pretty sure that noise is going to come back soon. It was making it every single day before that so this was really baffling.

I'll just have to wait until that noise returns again to make another trip to the city....there's no point in going all that way to take the car in only to tell them it's making a strange noise when it's not making it anymore. Damn it's like polkaroo.....happens when I'm around, disappears when I try to show someone else and nobody believes me lol.

Well, at least you know how to make the noise go away - just threaten a trip to the car doctor.

oddly as that sounds....I actually thought that, too. It's like the car knew I was going to take it in and it decided to just fix itself.

A week has gone by and it was not present on monday, but I could start to hear it again lightly on Tuesday - Thursday...so it's still
around but definitely not has loud as it was before. I'm going to wait until it gets loud again like before and take it in. I don't want to take it
in when I can't back up what I'm saying that there is a strange noise but when they test drive it, no noise. That would be a waste of a trip.
