It's probably me worrying myself but I've been furloughed since the end of March & am returning to work on 1st June which has been confirmed in writing.

I got an email (one I believe got sent to everyone within the group) saying about the continuation of furlough and that some cost reducing exercises and restructuring of the business would have to happen in the future, which to me sounds like redundancies.

I am in a very fortunate position, and one I am hugely grateful for, to be retuning to work as previously mentioned but would this email cause you concern or would you think that as you've been asked to return, and that you're one of the first to go back, you're safer?

Hope this doesn't sound harsh, but I doubt even the top level execs in your organisation can answer this at this point in time, let alone some randoms on a car forum.

You'll have to just sit tight and see how it pans out.

The only thing certain over the next few months, is uncertainty.

Best of luck.

I would from a personal perspective be happier knowing I have been chosen to return to work whilst others remain on Furlough. I would hope that this means that management have selected those they feel are more a priority to retain in the business. I would however be mindful that over the coming months if the business was not able to secure revenue, anything could happen.

But in the short term I would hope it is a positive.

It's sounds like a good time to roll your sleeves up and graft if you want to keep the job.

-Ask if there is anything you can do to help.
-Anything they'd like you to work on/improve.
-Be cheerful, try and improve morale of others around you.

Then do it. Make you one of the last people they'd want to let go.

But sounds like it will be a bumpy ride. Some companies are keeping everyone on but asking people to take salary cuts, one company I know of did 80%across the board. Take it or leave!

Best of luck. As above, it may well be the mangers don't even know yet, so try to keep a positive and open mind and offer to help, not mope/moan/worry, as I don't think that's the optimal way to make yourself indispensable

Oh and do start writing the CV. Worth thinking about an escape plan too!

I would spend as little as possible as you may not have a job in a few weeks and it could be very difficult to get another one as lots of unemployed and very little work about.

Thank you for the reply guys, the email looks like it was a generic one sent to everyone within the group.

I'm going to go back on 1st June and work my ass off, I like the idea of asking if there is anything I can improve on and I get on with everyone! A lady a colleague has said she is glad I'm coming back!

They have said that my role will change slightly including collecting/delivering cars and I will probably cover two brands (I work in Aftersales)

Not necessarily. I know if two colleagues looking for development work and both have said the market appears buoyant with plenty of opportunities coming their way.

I was furloughed and I have now been told, in the last hour, that I’m no longer required!

53 years old and no job....a bit worrying!

We are still recruiting so if you have skills in vhdl, fpga, general RF/radios or data science in the SE give me a shout?

I imagine many companies will be taking this very same stance.

I fortunately returned to work last Friday after 51 days of furlough, but we are many fewer in the company, I’d estimate a third less.

Although it hasn’t been openly discussed, it’s pretty clear that those who weren’t brought back in the initial wave are at a higher risk of losing their jobs should overall demand for our services diminish.

Sorry to hear this, what part of the country are you in? The company I work for is advertising for bus drivers again, might be worth seeing if your local company is taking on as the industry is always short staffed.

PHP, Application Development (backend), SQL etc.

Sorry to hear about all those being made redundant. You definitely won’t be the last.

I’m furloughed for 4 months! I’d say 50/50 whether I have a job to go back to (manufacturing development project work).

I'm sort of wondering that myself. I'm going back on Monday after nearly six weeks off, but there is only 5 of us going back out of about 20.

I'm going to have to get use of getting up at 5:20am again, instead of about midday....
