Anyone else being given a WFH allowance of £6 per week? I just got my payslip today and it’s been backdated since the start of lockdown.

I’ve heard it’s something anyone can claim for direct via HMRC but employers can do it on behalf of all staff.

Bet this is the HMRC allowance for the self-employed that use their home as an office.

This, although I was under the impression that the HMRC allowance was £6/month rather than /week, but I'm no expert.

'WFH' allowance is claimable from the HMRC but all that can be added is a percentage of the perceived increase in costs. Broadband provision is not included. So you can claim for a certain amount of the energy cost increase and when I looked into it around 6 months ago the general Google concensus was ~ £150/yr. Also also add in company logo'd clothing cleaning costs which then takes it up to £220/yr. I have WFH for 6 years.

Was £4/week, it went up to £6/week (£26pcm) with effect from 6th April

Yeah, this reflects what's in my payslip. Meh, not complaining about an extra £24pm tbh, certainly not life changing though hehe

It's not claimed from HMRC.

It's the amount that employers can pay to employees tax free, and without the employee having to provide evidence of costs incurred.

This suggests you can 'claim' online with HMRC.

Did you actually read that page?

"From 6 April 2020 your employer can pay you up to £6 a week (£26 a month) to cover your additional costs if you have to work from home. For previous tax years the rate is £4 a week (£18 a month)."

Did you actually follow the online process through? I didn't go right to the end of it as I didn't have P60 etc to hand but I logged in and ticked a few boxes and it implies you can 'claim' online (Gov gateway/HMRC). It even says, 'claim your expenses online'.

The fact that the money comes from the employer is not the point I'm disputing. I'm just saying it seems you can request this payment via HMRC website.

What's being asked about in this thread is the tax free £6/wk paid by employers. You can't claim that through HMRC.

You can claim tax relief on certain expenses incurred for work, if they're not paid by your employer.

Think you can claim in via self assessment if you do one that's what I'm going to do.
