MOT exempt question

1951 car was last on the road in 2009 when it had free tax but needed MOT, the V5C says Historic Vehicle.

It's been SORN from 09 til now and now doesn't need an MOT.

I've just insured it and taxed it online with DVLA, this went through OK and didn't mention MOT.

All I can find about MOT is that if you tax at a Post Office you fill in form V112 in place of an MOT cert but can't find anything about recording with DVLA that it's MOT exempt.

Common sense says that if DVLA will tax it then it's fine without an MOT but obviously common sense and DVLA aren't normally words that are used in the same sentence.

Anyone know if I need to tell DVLA and if so how?

I have two cars from 1976-odd and have never filled in a V112. The last time I renewed the (free) VED on one of them, I did it online and it asked me to confirm that the vehicle was MOT-exempt (I forget the exact wording), which I did. The first time I did it after the cars were MOT exempt, I don't think it asked me.

I am reading now that if you do the vehicle enquiry on the DVLA web site ( https://vehicleenquiry.service.gov.uk/ ) and it shows no MOT results returned, if the box is green then that indicates that it's OK, whereas if the MOT has just expired, the box will be red. That certainly seems to be the case on mine, both have green background boxes around the MOT section, but I can't think of an MOT-expired non-exempt car to try it with.

I filled out the v112 and have just checked the MOT website as above - as Droopsnoot says the MOT box is green for mine.

This is what mine shows; vehicle check first them MOT check.

I guess I'll fill in V112 and send it off to them.
