Now, it's only an idea, but I was wondering if would be possible to wedge a 3.6 M5 engine into an E36

Errr.. Don't see any reason why it would'nt fit..

Not sure why though.. when its only 315bhp. cheaper to buy an old non evo E36 M3 surely?

Alpina squeezed a 4.6 litre V8 into the E36 to create the B8.

BMW told Alpina it couldn't be done, so that was all the encouragement they needed to make it happen.

M5 3.8 litre "S38", 6 speed Getrag tranny in an "E9"CSL coupe, with E34 front and rear subframes and modern tyres.
Now THAT would be something that would wipe the floor with most Bangle era Bimmers!

Hi guys.... my mate who is doing the e39 m5 lump into e30 informed me of this little discussion,..... and i thought id introduce myself.... my names Karan, i have a 2.7 e30 and am currently building an e34 m5 engined e30 which should be done by the end of summer......

the man u speak of with the e36 m3 engined beast did his ages ago and it is AWESOME so i cant imagine what the e39 engined one will be like!!!!

bring on the e30s!!!!!!!
