I have a bmw m135i xdrive that’s gonna need new tyres soon. Currently shod with Continental Ecocontact 6. They’re not run flat and the car come with no skinny, just foam.
Can I go for anything else or do Bmw prefer these rubbish tyres with a ‘star’ marked on them for some reason?
Prefer a Pilot 4s but would a run flat be better. Quite prepared to buy an after market skinny.
Anyone else got around to this yet?

I chose the Pilot Super Sports on my M140i from factory. Handle much better than rft. I have foam which I've never used. I've had 2 punctures which I've had friends help me out with and it's not been too bad. If you have space, you may even have a wheel well, try and get a spare from a scrapy that fits perhaps. Would a mini spare wheel fit?

Pilots make sense. Had them on a mk7 gti that went for the 135 (slight regret). I did wonder why Bmw like tyres with stars marked on them.

I've tried Kumho Ps91 and they were good, but I only had 4k miles on the rear (you won't have this issue wink ).
I'd look at the Pilot Super Sport or Pilot Sport 4.

Regarding the star marking I've never looked. I always took it as BMW recommended.

When I just had tyres fitted at Costco the "technician" almost refused to fit the tyres I ordered because they weren't star marked and said it would void my warranty apparently. I couldn't be bothered to argue so just agreed, but fit them anyway please mate.

I’ve consistently been advised to stick with * marked for X drive BMWs; the advisers quoted drivetrain problems being a risk , issues with warranty and insurance.

Those that advised me were from Michelin, Pirelli and BMW , plus my independent tire retailer. They had the most specific examples of customers having problems
