skip hire costs

It's usually just by the size.

Normally its a one off charge, keep the skip until your ready for them to collect it. If wanting it for a few months maybe tell them in advance roughly how long you might need it so that they are informed from the beginning. Usually cheaper if the skip isn't on the road as they charge you extra for a council licence for having it on a highway. So if you can get int onto your drive then you'll save a few ££

Personally I don't want the sop fr a da longer than necessary as I worry someone will dump a mattress in it etc. I like to get everything ready to put in it in advance, then load it in a day. But thats just me.

Yep, £200 here for an 8 yard builder's skip for as long as you want it. You aren't really hiring the skip, you're paying them to deliver it, collect it, and dispose of what you've put in it.

In theory yes but if you had it for six months without a collect and redeliver the company isn't making a lot from that one skip.

I'm sure most do have some time limit, we had one on site 25 or so years ago, hardly used it and wasn't anywhere near full, it was taken away when we weren't on site, company said it had been there X amount of weeks, (a long time for one skip,)so collected it as for the one payment they weren't making anything or able to reuse the skip elsewhere, gaffer at the time understood and said it was a fair comment.

I'm talking well over one month it was on site without being collected.

But unless all skips they own are let out, they won't make anymore on that one skip by bringing it in.

Just hired 8 yard skip in leeds for £228.

Not cheapest or most expensive but they said they would take a dishwasher (some wouldn't have anything with electronics).

1 week standard hire and supposedly more if you want it longer. We called them to come collect and it's been there an extra week now.

Quite good because skip divers taking stuff out makes more capacity for us to put more in.

I just hired a skip, the company "reserves the right to collect it" after 2 weeks. Suits me, and it may be possible to have it for longer, but that's their rules...

Mine's been there about 3 months now - sometimes the guy rings to see if it's full, but no pressure to give it back. Local place, always seem to have loads of empties stacked up when I go past.

Actually getting the full ones picked up has always been the PITA part for us!
Problem is, that lorry can go out and deliver half a dozen empties at a time, but only pick up one full one....

I've just hired an 8 yard skip for £220 and was told they would leave it for up to 10 days. I only needed it for four days so I didn't ask if there was any extra cost to extend it but I doubt there was.

Some skip companies are very busy right now and are short of skips and may be getting more strict on their terms.

Thing is,I only need one, but am currently at Defcon4 with the neighbours, so was thinking of having a skip dumped on both side of my lawn (she has a path up the middle) ....

They seem to think the lawns are communal which they arnt, plus a host of other issues.

Yep, normally with some exclusions - fridges, tyres, maybe plasterboard or asbestos - though some places allow certain wastes like that if they are bagged and marked with the contents.
The place I used don't seem too worried at the minute - I had one delivered to another site about a month ago, and I had a pile of tyres there (and no intention of putting them in the skip) - driver saw them and said "no tyres in the skip, mate - so put them at the bottom so I can't see them, we're doing fk all recycling at the minute anyway".

Had a 4 yard delivered today for £150. Can't put any electrical items in it and they said I can have it for 2 weeks, I need it as I'm moving house and the tip can only be used on a booking system and once every 2 weeks.

Most by me couldn't get me one for weeks, they all said they were flat out, this was the only size I could get.

That's because every man in the country is either building a home office to get away from his wife, or building a deck/patio/terraced garden under the strict supervision of his wife. And once that is finished, he will then build a garden room with Man Stuff in it to get away from her.
