I think it was a boot barrel for a vauxhall but i cant remember which one. They were fitted on early chims both sides instead of plain buttons.

It is probably just an of the shelf lock barrel rather than from a car.
Google 'Lock barrel' should find you something suitable.

Definitely GM as it's branded, probably Cavalier.
Same key to operate as ignition.

It pops the drivers door open manually should you not be able to get in the car.

How is the plastic bit secured to the barrel?
Looks like you could make a new piece out of ali.

I'm struggling to see how it can come apart, there isn't a clip on the back holding it together.
I may look for an alternative I can make fit.

Unless there is a lot of physical effort required by the bit broken off, I'd be tempted to try fixing it with 2 part epoxy resin first. It can be filed down once set.

Whaaaaaat. I've only owned my car since 96 and didn't know this. Can someone PM me further detail please.

You're not alone. I have '98 and am not aware of such an item anywhere on the car. Further info on location greatly appreciated.

IIRC, the earlier cars were different to the later ones, for emergency access.

Obviously, this is a security issue, so such information cannot be divulged on a forum, but through private messaging.
I received the info via TVRCC (if I can find it again).

Having communicated with the op I can confirm the earlier cars and a simplified version if this. Like every car the later models have thrills added. And therefore weight. This must make earlier cars better/more valuable? ??

‘earlier cars better, more valuable’?

I think you’d start a whole new thread on that subject.

I for one would beg to differ

Mk2 cav and astra from same era, that disc on the end is an interference fit, small screwdriver under the edge and lift up bit by bit going round in a circle, then replace the broken plastic bit (if you can get one) and press the disc back on.

Thanks, I can probably make something that works, it's only pulling a cable.

I have one of these mounter just below my numberplate , pops the drivers door (or would if it wasn't broken). I assumed it was aftermarket mod.
