Seating position revelation
Discussion
For a few years my riding pleasure has been constrained by pain in the upper leg after an hour or so. To the point where on a long ride I ended up counting the miles to the next stop. The best way to describe it, is like standing with knees bent to simulate a riding position but without anything to sit on. I knew it was partly psychological because it would be agonising through a motorway roadworks stretch then largely clear up a few minutes later but I was still considering selling the bike and not replacing it because I couldn't do the trips I wanted and couldn't think of a bike that might be any better.
I went for a decent ride this morning specifically to analyse the problem and I think I've cracked it. I was trying to sit too upright, once I slumped in the seat it was far better. Once I tried to sit bolt upright I could feel the tension in my legs.
OK it probably helped that it was a perfect biking day, no clouds, no traffic for some reason, not too hot. But there now hope that I'm not too old for biking while not even 60. This also explains why going from a (generally very comfortable) Deauville to a (general equally comfortable, better legroom but worse seat) GS1200 didn't help. A sportier bike, while with issues of it's own, might have helped this particular problem. This would also explain why people older than me can ride longer distances on K1300s and the like.
Has anybody else had a similar experience? I appreciate that most PH bikers are sporty types who regard an R1 as a comfortable bike and a Fireblade as positively luxurious.

What about something different like a Kawasaki z650?

But, but, it's got a chain. https://twitter.com/Kawasaki_News/status/125990487...

Different (and I’m only 28) but I find my tuono and other upright bikes less comfortable than sports bikes as I have broken one of my collarbones a couple of times and for some reason it’s more comfy for it with clip ons than sit up bars which is weird.
It’s kind of annoying, I’m 6’4” and whilst I can deal with the high foot pegs now, when I get older I’m gonna need some weird bike that doesn’t exist with low pegs and low bars...
