Hello all,

Recently purchased an F32 420 M Sport and the dealer I purchased it from put an M Performance body kit on it and different wheels. They've put 235/35/20 on the front and 275/30/20 on the rear, which feel absolutely enormous and I'm sure are contributing to the car's extremely (read: unacceptably) firm ride. Firm enough that I want to do something about it. The alloys themselves look great, though, which is a shame.

Looking at the sticker on the car itself, BMW don't even put recommended tyre pressures on it for tyres that big. The biggest 20s they list are 225 front and 255 rear.

I'm thinking 19s would be the sweet spot in terms of blending aesthetics and comfort, but this is guess work on my part. I will also caveat this with I've never driven an F32 on regular size tyres, but I'd be surprised if it rode this badly.

Does anyone have any ideas, experience of even empircal data so that I can make an informed choice?

All comment welcome.

Cheers.

19s and RFTs are fine with the optional adaptive suspension.
Otherwise stick some non RFTs on.

I'm basing this on my driving experience of the F generation.

Sorry, I should've mentioned that the 20s are non-RFT, so I suspect it is the size of the tyres causing the issue...

Type of tires being the same (example non RFT) then smaller wheels are usually more comfortable than bigger ones.

Example :- on my 335i , I went from 19s non RFT to 17s non RFT (for my winters) and that was a better ride.

I’ve never heard of 20 inch wheels on a 4 series.
Even the initial M cars were 19 inch.

IF these are not manufacturer approved wheels might worth having car checked over , just in case running 20 inch wheels has unsettled any suspension component in any way.

And I think when changing wheels / tires consider a proper 4 wheel alignment.

I've got an LCI 430d M Sport F32 which has the normal 19" wheels on passive suspension and I've previously had a pre-LCI 420d M Sport also on 19s, both with factory Goodyear Eagle F1 RFT's. I've also in the past had a 330e M Sport with 19s on Bridgestone Potenza RFTs.

The advice I would give is to go for 19s and the Goodyear tyres - from experience the Bridgestone's give a choppier ride - and they are a common factory fitment. The Goodyears perform much better, the ride is firm but not uncomfortable, a good balance I'd say.

Thanks for the replies guys.

I think I'll run these until they wear out and then drop them an inch.

Cheers for the specific tyre recommendation too. I've watched a fair bit of that "tyre reviews" channel on youtube and he seems to recommend the Goodyear Eagle F1s, Continental SportContact or Michelin Pilot Sport 4 S as the best premium tyres, so it's good to hear some long term users of those tyres also rating them highly.
