A guy on my local Facebook page is touting for work.

He’s got a nice little ad up with his phone number etc and it looks pretty good. He’s had some good reviews already.

He’s put himself as ‘apprentice painter’

I know you can do an apprenticeship at college but is this one of those times where you can call yourself a ‘painter’ without any qualifications or indeed experience at all?

He may be qualified but have no actual experience. I’m the opposite. Time served but no paperwork.

Most jobs don't actually need formal training or qualifications. I'm currently a Business Analyst and have worked for Government, the NHS, and multiple blue chip companies without needing qualifications.

Apprentice has no real meaning these days. 35 years ago my Engineering Apprenticeship was 4 years, and the majority of that time was in the classroom. A friend's son recently got an "Apprenticeship" working in our local pubs kitchen!
