Evening all, I currently have a OnePlus 5 which has been a great phone and wanting to stick with android, I am looking for a new phone. The camera is a very important feature for me and as such I had decided on the Google PIxel 4/4XL. Currys have some good deals at the moment, but before I click buy it now, a couple of questions. I don't want to spend £1000 and around the £700 mark is where I am. Is there another handset to consider? And this is the daft question, so go easy on me, buying a handset from say PC World, will it be unlocked and suitable for use on O2? Cheers!

John Lewis are the same price as Currys/PC World.
I know who I'd rather use...

I'd get a Note 10 or an S10+.

Google phones come unlocked so should be fine on O2.
Where you buy it from can be just as important if there are warranty issues.

Can you get it direct from Google?
659 or 759 dependent on storage.

I could indeed get it directly from Google.
I was looking at the standard Pixel 4, as it is only screen size and battery that vary. The only downside is the Pixel 4 battery seems to get a lot of stick for being low capacity. Anybody got any thoughts on this? I am not really a heavy phone user, so am left wondering if I will end up with a flat battery after 2 hours!

Get the XL over the normal battery is a lot better, also get it direct from Google, their CS is really good. I've been a Google hardware customer for years.

That is good to hear and I think I shall take the plunge, directly with Google.

If you have any issues with it you simply speak to them online, warranty details are there... if you buy it from CPW you have to deal with CPW then Google.

I’ve just spotted in the small print at the very bottom of the Tech Specs section it says promotion ends later today! Whether that is accurate or not, who knows!

Just ordered it from the Google store. A very productive start to the day I would say.

I've had similar, been at work since 6, ordered Vodafone FIbre switching from EE. Contract due up today, Vodafone £20 cheaper a month and can switch to Gigafast when its enabled in a few weeks.

I'm after a 3a / 4a, tempted to follow suit and order a 3a today in case there's a longer than anticipated wait for the 4a.

With the offers ending today, I can only guess they'll announce the 4a this evening

The new Google phones are ready for release but Google are holding them back. I'm waiting for the 4a, I've read it's going to be released around July.

As someone that went for the 3a instead of waiting for the 4a, I can say that I have no regrets whatsoever. My 3a has been fantastic so far, no issues at all. Plus, for the price of £229 at CPW (if you include the £50 mastercard giftcard they include) it will be a better deal than the 4a.

I may change my tune when I see the 4a, but from what the rumours are, the only real jump is the processor and I have absolutely no performance issues with my 3a, it is just as fast as my old OnePlus 6 was.

The price of the 3a will come down more again before July though, that is for sure.

I believe that the 4a battery is significantly better. That's what I'm gambling on smile

I would have gotten two with the £50 off, but it's no longer valid frown

That'd be great, if the 3a battery wasn't already stellar. It is far better than almost every other phone i've had, bar the Motorola Moto Z Play.

All depends on the price really. Anything under £100 difference between the two, then get the 4a, anything more than that and it is a waste of money IMO.

You can get a P30 Pro for around £500. One of the best cameras in a phone going.

That is a shame! I still think the price will come down more up until the 4a is launched. I got mine for £299 with the £50 giftcard on top. I am happy with it for the price. I considered things like the Galaxy A51 and A71, but Samsung can't seem to sort out their lag issues after a few months of usage, the A51 especially.

Take a look here if the camera is an important feature

https://www.dxomark.com/category/smartphone-review...

Pixels are no longer class leading when it comes to camera performance.
