Discussion
Had a phone call from a friend asking if I wouldn't mind giving his nephew(21) some advice on buying a maserati 3200. Of course I said no worries so I rang him went through the usual, don't buy the first one you come across, cam belts, red key,FDSH etc.etc. anyway after about five minutes of me droning on he interrupts me and say's 'actually I have just bought one'
Pardon?
He then tells me its a really nice looking car and the dealer assured him that someone else was interested and he would have to let it go....(nothing changes) Anyway he has put down a deposit of 1K, he knows nothing about the car other than its a 2001 3200 manual has a FSH is dark green(Verde Mexico?) two owners from new 50K on the clock and comes with a 1 yr warranty(up to value of car) was up for 24K he managed to get it for 23K and yes it is the first 3200 he has seen, garage is a independent in Swiss cottage.
Well if he's bought it not really a lot to say but he wants me to go and have a look at it, wondered if,other than what I have already mentioned anything particular to look out for?
Also thought the safety recall(whether this car is affected or not) might be a good chance to get the seller to allow the car to go to a dealer where it could get a general inspection, any idea how much maranello etc. charge for this?
Any advice gratefully received

50k on the clock? Must be one of the leggiest around. As a 2001 car it should be in decent nick. Verde not the colour to have given previous experiences of certain others on resale.
Check the chassis number with a dealer - they should be able to tell you if it's been in an accident / repaired etc.

A 3200 at 21 - not too shabby, I bet his insurance premium is quite hefty.
Colour and mileage could make it difficult to sell on later. I assume you have already introduced him to the concept of Maserati depreciation.
Indeed, don't think its an issue for him though, daddy's picking up the tab.

Will do, was told he had a budget of around 25K I was going to suggest he stretches that and takes a look at your car but the deed was done before I could offer my two penny worth. I just hope he's nothing like I was at 21, a 3200 at 21 would probably have got me into a lot of trouble or worse. His previous car was a porsche cayenne(the low fat version) and according to him that was the quickest car he's driven thus far, so don't know how he will get on with the 3200

well the 3200 will scare the pants off him probably then! Handling is great up to the point up until you run out of grip - then its hold on tight and get ready to meet the badger family. Would seriously recommend (Seeing as daddy is picking up the tab!) some driver training - the turbo thump is pretty dangerous if you're not used to powerful cars!
