987 2.7L suspension creaking sound
Discussion
Hi All,
My car (a 2005 model) has a creaking sound on the back right suspension. I sprayed a load of WD40 on the ball joints, nuts and bolts etc and it did go away temporarily... though now it seems to come and go.
The noise comes on during acceleration in particular. It's a really loud clunking / clicking sound. I tried going around a large oval shaped roundabout fairly quickly in a clockwise direction (braking and accelerating at the corners) and the sound wasn't heard.. though then again it comes and goes.
What are the likely suspects? I'm guessing it may be drop link or coffin arm but i may be entirely wrong

Seems odd that it's more noticeable under acceleration. Have you noticed any deterioration in handling? Depending on the noise it could be a drop link, but you'd hear it more regularly over rough road. Could be snapped spring or top mount about to give up. Could also just be worn bushings, especially if lubrication temporarily cured it.
Probably best to get to your indy to be sure.

I'm fairly handy with the car so would like to diagnose and fix myself with some guidance. No deterioration in handling. all 4 coil springs are fine Probably best to get to your indy to be sure.

Has the coffin arm Bush rusted itself on to the bolt that holds it? That may limit movement in the arm and give you that creaking sound.
Drop links make a more distinctive clunk and are very noticeable over rough roads (broken tarmac etc)
The coffin arm bolt is pretty rusty yes... could this be as simple as penetrant spray? I have just ordered some Drop links make a more distinctive clunk and are very noticeable over rough roads (broken tarmac etc)
WD40 Fast Release Penetrant
It's a pretty clunky sound... could be drop link? i'm pretty sure it's one of the two
