I expect dealerships to be busy with some still people having time off - people will be window shopping i.e. passing the time due to boredom - how many of these window shoppers will buy a car is another story? Also as many people who feel their job is safe from the fallout of Covid-19 will look at buying a new car given that you can't spend the money on a holiday on so forth.
We collected a new car last Friday and the salesman told me they opened up their dealership last Monday for new car collections only and they've had people turn up at the dealership only to be turned away. Most dealerships will be offering appointments only for new car sales, test drives etc.

Used dealer friend of mine has been fielding enquiries throughout lockdown and sold 3 on first day. Estate agent friend of mine has been deluged as well.
I think people having loads of time on their hands at home just sat on Rightmove, Autotrader etc.
It’s positive for economy I think.

They are putting this down to:
- pent up demand from people who have been unable to browse/buy during lockdown
- people getting refunds for their holidays, or reallocating money they expected to spend on a big 2020 trip that they have given up on
- people having a pot of money from reduced spending during lockdown
- some people now not wanting to use public transport
He wasn’t confident that this spike will last long though given the likely spike in unemployment and a recession.

My company car goes back soon, so I’m hoping to agree a deal on a 340i touring this week. Hopefully the mrs doesn’t notice the exhausts as this has been sold as a sensible option!
Having said that, if it wasn’t for COVID I would have probably ordered a new M340i. Although I have the cash, I’m just being a little more financially conscious than before.

New posts on here about VTing leases and buying a cheaper car, the death of good lease deals in the lease deals thread and the emphasis, in those threads, on the return of lease cars suggests a trend back towards purchasing and doing this through a physical trader or privately. This may be more towards the used car market or the budget end of the new car market perhaps?

Mate of mine in the business says that the prediction is for new car sales to drop significantly, but for used car sales to hold up well, especially beneath £10k as people get off public transport and into their cars.
I'd expect that to be regional though - zero point having a car to get around London. Traffic will be awful and there's nowhere to park it, nevermind the cost of doing so.
