The highest speed recorded was 163mph on the M1 in London, 93 miles over the speed limit, according to the Metropolitan police’s lead on road safety, Det Supt Andy Cox. That driver was in a Porsche .....

That is going some. I think that driver might be using Uber for 6 months at least.

I don't know why people are doing it.

"Because the roads are empty."

They have always been empty late at night in most places around the UK.

We had a good one recently in Toronto. 19 year old in Dad’s delimited AMG clocked by police at 308 km/h. Say 185 mph.

This person deserves a kick in the privates.

Cox, the Met’s lead for its Vision Zero initiative to eliminate deaths on the roads, said his team caught a driver doing 134mph in a 40mph zone in Enfield.

Better conditions for high-speed running during the day as visibility is much further.

There's no way I would even try it. The roads round here have been so much busier with cyclists and pedestrians it is hard enough just getting to the speed limit in some places.

That and according to our local speed trap watch FB group, the police have been standing at every common speeding spot every single day for the last 3 weeks.

I don't think that these kind of people are thinking that deeply into things.
