VW Group's Successor to the 1.9 PD TDI? (for reliability etc
Discussion
I've now owned three Skoda Octavia's with the legendary Bosch 1.9 PD TDI engine, and after watching another YouTube video on this last night I wondered if the VW Group ever had an engine after this that was as reliable and could also easily achieve high mileage with little maintenance.
Hopefully my current Octavia will last another four years at least, and once it's no longer economical enough to maintain I'll probably be looking at another Ocatvia manufactured around 2018/2019. However, with emission regulations the TDI's flipped back to common rail, had EGR introduced and numerous other tweaks to increase their complexity (and potentially increase maintenance costs).
Is the current 2.0 TDI, compared to the old 1.9 TDI, a reliable engine that can achieve high mileage? Or is there now a TSI engine, that you could have in a Golf / Ocatvia estate with a DSG transmission, that coudl match the 1.9 TDI for economy, perfomance and longevity?

The 2.0 CR TDI engines seem to have a good reliability record. I've got a 2010 car on 160k miles, having had no issues with the engine.
The DPF can be an issue if doing lots of short journeys, but I've had no issues with mine - I have a decent length motorway commute.
The TSIs on the other hand seem to have a lot of timing chain issues, my wife's Golf among them.
