Does anyone know offhand what size of stainless screws are required to fit a number plate onto factory holes, I want to fit german style plate holders.

It's on an old IS300 if that matters

Danke,

Measure your drill hole. That width + short enough not to hit the radiator is your screw size.

4-5mm, or about #8-#10

Though some cars use a spire nut tab with an M5 or M6 screw.

Are we not allowed to mention the purpose-made, yellow, black or white nylon bolts for this purpose?

It's an obvious question but the heads are too large to allow a pressed plate into the holders,
