"The Big Six." Jaguar D Type at Le Mans, 1957 Documentary.
Discussion
Wonderful documentary "The Big Six" by Cave Bear Films about Hugh Langrishe's role as Time Keeper for Ecurie Ecosse at Le Mans 1957 and his friendship with winner Ron Flockhart (partnered with Ivor Bueb), as well as when owner/custodian of the 2nd place Number 15 car, Clive Beecham, reunited Ex Works/Ecurie Ecosse Jaguar D Type XKD 603, with Hugh.
What an incredible car the D Type is, and an amazing achievement it was that the Ex Works/Ecurie Ecosse D Types XKD 606 and XKD 603 were 1st and 2nd driven by Bueb/Flockhart and Lawrence/Sanderson with other Private Team D Types taking 3rd, 4th and 6th positions beating Ferrari's absolute finest 315S, 335S, 290MM and 250TR works cars piloted by the world's best drivers, as well as the Aston Martins and Maseratis in the World's Greatest Race.
All of us here will appreciate and respect how The Big Sixes of the "D" beat the Mighty Twelves.

That is a fabulous bit of film. I had the good fortune to work for Lynx Engineering for several years back in the day, as Sales Manager I got to drive many of our replicas and just occasionally an original car too. They were magical machines, very quick and very beautiful but it was the exhaust note that was the icing on the cake. The yellow car in the film was the Ecurie Nationale Belge car which, many years later we would restore.

This was our 'Company Car', yours truly at the helm, I covered thousands of road miles in it, both in the UK and into Europe, part of my job being to promote the company and the things we made and did. We also took seven National and International speed records in classes A and C with this car using MIRA and Millbrook so no slouch. In 1954 Jaguar published a wonderful poster celebrating their Le Mans victories which in 1990, with Jaguar's consent, we reproduced on art paper. I still have a copy signed by Tony Rolt and Duncan Hamilton which I hope to frame and put up one day if I can find enough wall space for it. Wonderful memories which I will long cherish - along with the Tinnitus resulting from taking an XKSS to Mulhouse and back for an Expo there!!
