£5000-6000 budget for a car need some insight
Discussion
Hello, first post but decent time reading on the forums. Ives seen basically all the posts about best car for 5-6k but they normally come with needed criteria for example; 4 doors , fuel efficient, comfy, etc. None of them seem to match my needs so here i am.
Im 19 years old with 2 years no claims so the only needs i have is that the insurance isn't above 2.5k a year and the cars in 5-6k range. Im looking for something that has a good engine lot of potential for modifications and tuning because im wanting to learn through that and create a real beast of a car. No care for comfort , fuel efficiency or anything of the sort im looking for pure tuning , power and fun.
Ive searched through everything i can seem to find , i wanted a Subaru/evo but the prices are a bit much and even the non sti / turbo Subaru insurance is 4+k whats crazy. I also started looking through bmw's but i was kinda fearful that they arent the best for somewhat beginners and if something goes wrong its 5k to fix no matter what it is.
I was a bit stuck but after searching far and wide i found a Celica GT4 ST205 import, priced at 6.5k , 2l turbo 4wd with some decent power and , in my opinion, unique good looks plus the insurance was only around 1k a year. Thought thats it i've found the diamond in the rough but then i found out it has the same engine as the mr2 turbo and ofcorse the mr2 turbo is just slightly faster and lighter. Now that wouldn't be a problem normally however my brother is a "mr2 man" and owns about 3 of them and me and him are pretty petty with eachother so i know he'll be all over my case with "my cars better" "my cars faster" "you're copying me" stuff that i just didn't wanna deal with so it kinda put me off the car.
So i was stuck again but thought maybe i could get a mx5 and a turbo kit plus some extras , i added that all up to around the 5k mark (with a mx5 nb mk2.5 2005 included) but im also somewhat doubtful that its a good idea to have my second car basically be a turbo go cart waiting to blow. Plus ive never fitted a turbo etc. so it would be a first time learning thing.
The gist of things is i need some outside insight from people ,who know alot more than me, on cars that ive maybe missed or potential in cars that i haven't seen. Thanks for any help Jack.

Are the two objectives compatible?....................... create a real beast of a car. No care for comfort , fuel efficiency or anything of the sort im looking for pure tuning , power and fun.
Or are you not intending to declare mods to the insurer?
