Young relative with a significant birthday approaching and a fondness for Porsches.

I thought it might be fun to buy some Porsche shares as a gift, but not the first clue how to. Any suggestions, and can you buy shares in someone else's name and give them to them?

I thought Porsche was all family owned, but may be wrong.

I think you are right, so OP can’t. Nor Lamborghini for that matter.

Correct. You can buy shares in PAH (Porsche Automobile Holding) which is the Family holding company, which owns 50+% of VW. Or you can buy VW, which is the automotive operating company.

Both of these company’s have ordinary and preference shares

Lovely idea but generally a bit of a 'mare. They would need a brokerage account somewhere to hold the shares, you would have to either buy and transfer them - do you have a brokerage account ? - or give them the cash to do it themselves which is less 'giftlike'. And are they a minor ? Extra aggro if so. And it is all electronic, you don't have a tangible certificate to frame on the wall any more.

OP may be interested to know that customers of Hargreaves Lansdown can deal online in the shares of Porsche Automobil Holding SE.

https://www.hl.co.uk/shares/shares-search-results/...

HL say, "Buy & sell Porsche Automobil Holding SE shares today. Invest in shares from only £5.95 and never more than £11.95 per deal."

Pity his affection is not for Aston Martin, rather than Porsche.
You can buy a few shares and also have a share certificate (to frame if you want to).

Can even buy in your own name (with certificate), then transfer to a minor, but that would have to be as a 'designated account' (ie. showing a parent name followed by child's initials A/c.).

Possibly unwise to buy more than a handful of shares though. They have been technically bust eight times in 107 years, and have hardly ever made a profit. May not be a publicly quoted company indefinitely, so the opportunity to obtain a share certificate might be limited.

You could give them the contract note 1 share costs 50 euro give or take, buy it through T212 with no fees.

Hardly going to set his world alight a framed contract note.
