Dear all,
I have been offered a quota for the car & I will refund my Taycan's deposit of interest. Just wanted to have your views on some of the options please.

1. Alcantara vs leather steering wheel. I prefer leather for its durability. I just wanted to ask if it is safe in terms of grip for this car? Mainly for road use.

2. Aluminium pedals. Worth it? Looks cool, but can I drive the car wearing leather sole to work or they are realistically for sticky / driving shoes only?

3. Lane change assist. This is not available in this car. With the restricted views especially changing to left lane at night or in heavy rain
I suspect I might struggle & get a bit stressed out. Any advise? (pls dont say avoid city, rainy days, night , & always hood down & track only, but if this is the reality I guess I better know it now).

4. Heated seats. Did not need this in Cayman previously. Big impact in this car?

5. This is not option related. I have never sat in a car with 30mm PASM before. Is the stiffness bearable for city / country daily use? The sales said the Spyder is less stiff/ bouncy then a mark III TT with sports suspension, which I (& himself ) had owned. Any comments?

6. Isofix. Continued from point 5. Is the car so stiff it might hurt my little kids' spine? Or ban them from the car altogether & don't bother with isofix?

7. Choice between carrera white & gentian blue. Pros & cons?

So excited! This will be the best car for my last manual petrol car.

Cheers to you all!

If you're concerned about daily use/firmness/lane change assist have you considered a Boxster GTS 4.0 rather than a Spyder?

Yes I was thinking the green 4.0 @10mm, but the spyder is just so special.

Best to really order what YOU want then. Not what other people want.

It sounds like the GTS would be a better fit for you, based on what you've said you're concerned about. The Spyder is more of a "high days and holidays" car, especially with the manual roof, low suspension etc. I think most people who want GT products really want GT products, they're more decisions of the heart than the head. If practicalities matter then they're not the right choice.

All IMHO of course! Plenty of people daily drive GT products but you do need to accept or embrace their limitations smile

The reviews say the 718 Spyder ride is more compliant than the 981 Spyder which I own and I wouldn’t think twice on taking my Spyder on any grand tour. It’s perfectly acceptable.

May be folks who have owned both who can comment.

the 981 just jiggle about on x73 which is fun. the PASM is more planted and rides better for sure.

depends want you want.

both cars are flawed just in different places.

This was interesting from Porsche ;-)

"Porsche Admits Mistake Over Cayman GT4 Gearing"

https://carbuzz.com/news/porsche-admits-mistake-ov...

best car in modern Porsche times if you want a soft top will be a PDK 4.0 GTS really.

you get the 4.0 engine from the GT4, you get a working roof and PDK will give you the shorter gears.

Can a few people order ones in white with buckets and silver wheels so I can buy one at £50k down the line when your ballons are due ;-)

1. This makes me laugh, is leather "Safe" for steering wheel. Been OK for last 100 years

2. No, they are the normal pedals with stuck on plates, that apparently can come off and are shocking. Avoid.

3. It makes me sad that lane charge is even an option on this car, avoid.

4. Heated seats, I think they would be important for me on a convertible in the UK.

5. As per previous points, as a daily the GTS 4.0 would be more compliant and easier to live with. As also stated the convenience of the electric roof and ability to raise and lower on the move is a big plus point for a weekend car.

6. Get a 2nd car to take kids to school

7. Both colours I would consider, personally choice.

Personally i'd get a Python green 718GTS with heated folding buckets and a heated leather steering wheel.

I have a 718 Spyder, and the suspension is hard, as expected in a GT car, same as my previous 991.2 GT3.

If you’re used to track cars, then it’s actually better than expected. But if you’re used to more road oriented setups, then you will be disappointed. Personally, I love it hard wink

Not sure if you’ve seen the most recent 718 Spyder on the Car Guys channel re his Spyder. Covers the pedals and heated seat questions https://youtu.be/wtrFISKJgOY

He wasn’t keen on the pedals after one fell off and appeared to be something roughly glued on. Blanked out button would annoy me, too. Heated seats are a nice option in convertibles for top down cold weather driving imo.

I have the aluminium pedals on my 718 GT4 and also had them on my previous 981 GTS. Never had a problem with them falling off and the grip is great.

If you like them go for them.

He was probably very unlucky that one fell off. Given the way they appear to be attached, it could be an easy addition after purchase. Adding heated seats is probably very cost inefficient compared to speccing them at the outset.

The aluminium pedals can be added via a Tequipment part order so I'm not surprised they're easy to add like you say.

Heated seats are definitely a factory order for my money as they're not available from an OPC as a retrofit so you'd have to DIY them or go to an Indy.

Must say I do fancy a Spyder if I could somehow get an allocation. Having thought long and hard about the car I’d like, personally there are 4 essential options for regular use, in this order:

1. Heated seats, you will have a devil of a job reselling a convertible in the UK without them!
2. Cruise control, on an £80K car this should be standard anyway
3. Rear park assist - so handy
4. Heated steering wheel, have one in my M4, use it all the time apart from peak summer.

Lastly for me personally, a set of bucket seats

All the rest of the frippery like leather dash, fancy stiching, coloured dials and seat belts ad nausea are just ways to screw more money from you while not necessarily making the car any better as a driving experience. Just my tuppence worth....

1. I agree, unless you've optioned 918-style full buckets where heating isn't an option. On any other seat they're a must, I agree, and not that expensive.
2. Definitely.
3. Definitely.
4. Only relevant if you want a leather wheel. Alcantara can't be heated, but even in winter it's not cold to the touch and so heating isn't a problem.

The multifunction Alcantara steering wheel can be heated

Do people see dual zone climate as a must have option?

Basic air con on a £90k car - really?

Christ, there was a lot of whinging in that review.

But fair play to him for imploding his warranty immediately by modding a brand new car.
