Decided to try and fit a pair of the clear front indicator lenses yesterday. Managed to remove the old ones and realised that the originals have a reflector built in to the lens part, but my clear replacements don't have them fitted.

Just wanted to check if i have the wrong part or whether the reflectors are really necessary.

With the reflectors the lamps will be brighter but if you fitted LED bulbs (and electronic flasher module) then they would likely be brighter than original.

I did the same on my Griff. I can confirm that with LED bulbs they are indeed brighter than before smile

Sounds lke a good plan. The silvered bulbs I bought dont fit anyway, as they have offset pins, so will have a look at Led replacements.

For the led bulbs do I need to install and additional flasher unit or replace the original relay?

If you decide to fit LED ind bulbs fit one of these or they'll flash ten to the dozen , they work I have one and you can set the flash speed , works great & looks well made too https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/PureTek-CF14-3-Pin-Adju...

Thanks Simon, might give that a try. Presumably this replaces the relay under the dash?

Would I also need to replace the bulbs in the rear indicators and repeaters?

You can change what you like I have standard 21w ind bulbs front but LED side indicators and rear lamps , you can turn the rotary knob on that suggested flasher unit to set the flash rate to your liking its a broad adjustment

I looked into these a while back I think the part you have is FV817224 to get the same with the reflector I think you would need to use the Reverse lamp FV939004 I compiled a list of the lenses while I was buying them listed below:
  • FV760732 Stop/Tail
  • FV760733 Turnlight Rear
  • FV760734 Turnlight Front (fitted on all Griff/Chim/Cerb)
  • FV817224 Side Light (without reflector)
  • FV861059 Tail Light
  • FV939003 Fog Lamp
  • FV939004 Reversing Lamp

I've tried a set of the LED bulbs, and with the standard relay they flash at normal speeds with the hazards on, but double speed with the indicators on, which I expected.

Tried 2 alternative relays, the adjustable one linked above and a 2nd one from amazon. Neither of these worked, they click once but dont flash at all.

Reverted the the standard type bulbs for now, but looking for an alternative fix for the LEDs.

You may have a different relay pin-out then because thats what the relay will do (one click) if its the wrong style , there are generally two pin wiring configs with three pin ind relays
