A45 /rs3/golf r

So been looking at a45 amg mainly.
I can get one with full spec and low miles whereas for same price can get an rs3 without the full spec.

So the golf r is too common and can get a 500 bhp 2017 one for same price

What would you do am in a real dilemma lol

Any advice?

I have also started looking for m3/m4..

My budget is 30k

Buy an M3/4

AWD superhstches are impressive but boringly so in my opinion

Driving fun is about engagement and car control, and more than just point to point pace in the wet

Agree with this. I have a stage 1 golf r which whilst immensely capable it doesn’t have much character.

As good as the A45 is (& it's very good) the C63/RS4/IS-F/M3 are much more special cars but they will cost more to run.

M3 these wre a rarer sight & imo are the better looking car when compared to the M4, they also hold their money slightly better.

As I said these are different to a hot hatch but are just as much fun I'd say test drive some to see if they're for you.

For me out of the hottest hatches it would be the RS3 (that engine just edges it for me) then the A/CLA45 the Golf doesn't get a look in.

Doesn't the Golf R have "fake" engine sounds pumped into the cabin?

That would be enough for me to not have one.

Always seems to be Golf R's up to mischief/stolen on Police interceptors aswell, wouldn't want the heat if I had one.

Thats the thing compare running costs of an a45 to N m3 and it soon puts me off the m3

Being honest my first choice was the a45 because of what you can get for less than my budget and the running costs
The rs3 for a nice one its like 7k over my budget.

The m3 etc are nice but the running costs may be a bit too high for me.

There's probably not that much in it at all.


I'd also go for the M3 or M4 over the A45 or RS3. If running costs are the issue then the Golf R will be cheaper. The highly tuned one will probably mean a lot of bills.

If you're thinking of taking a Merc to a main dealer, you better put your sh*tting pants on.

I had a Golf R estate on lease and had 2 services. First was about £200, second about £340

My wife's leased A200 was quoted in the dealer £500 for the first one alone for what entailed a oil and filters change and an 'inspection'.

I rather rudely, in hindsight, laughed out loud and walked out while my wife carried on the conversation in a grown up manner.

I found the M4 equally over competant and dull, this was a pre updated one thou, and the noise was meh

you buy the RS3 for the noise and the interior and winning traffic light GPs

the A45 as a far better steer than the RS3, the 45s is supposed to be pretty special with its active twin clutch rear axel

the golf R is the sensible hat choice as you pay RS/AMG tax (£1300 for front rotors and pads)

the mini SUV versions are far better real world cars (GLA45 RSQ3)

i would get a GTI TCR as it will be hugely more fun to drive than any of the others

The RS3 & A45 aren't going to be cheap to run I'd do some checks on the service costs before committing to any of them.

This. With a bit of haggling £30k will get you in to a brand new TCR with delivery miles. Dealers over ordered on them, so there are loads floating around the VW network.

Fuel wise is the m3 and a45 much different then?
As servicing etc i would get a car that had its major service already
