quick Q re xbox live gold

Hi all

I have an old xbox 360 which my two boys still love playing various halo games on. They would like to expand things a little with the live gold membership.

If I sign up for a monthly membership, does that allow them both to play online together, or is the membership per controller/sign in/user only?

Also, do you need to have headphones etc?

It’s per membership but as it’s one console it will work. One account has live and the other plays as a guest on split screen.
