My local Lookers Audi posted this on their Facebook page (see below). Seems very generous to me. Are the discounts as substantial as they sound? Will other dealerships be following suit?

“ Now is the time to choose an Audi. Because we’ll cover your first three monthly payments with up to 5.2% APR Representative*, and provide deposit contributions up to £16,000 across the Audi range.

Better still, this in addition to any existing offers available at Audi Centres, so you can enjoy considerable savings – as well as the thrill of a car sporting the four rings. https://www.lookers.co.uk/audi/offers/three-months...

  • At the end of the agreement there are three options: i) pay the optional final payment and own the vehicle; ii) return the vehicle: subject to excess mileage and fair wear and tear, charges may apply; or iii) replace: part exchange the vehicle.
With Solutions Personal Contract Plan. 18s+. Subject to status & availability. T&Cs apply. Ordered by 30/06/20 and delivered by 31/12/2020 from participating Centres. Advertised APR only valid until 30th June 2020 but the “3 monthly payments on Audi” offer available until 30th September 2020. 36 to 49 month agreements only. Agreements with a term less than 46 months may receive a contribution less than the equivalent of 3 monthly payments however you will not be required to be make a monthly payment for the first 3 months.
Excludes RS, R8, e-tron and PHEV models. Audi deposit contribution range: A1 Sportback receives £700 and A8 receives £16,000. Indemnities may be required. Finance offer not available in conjunction with any other finance offer and may be withdrawn at any time. Accurate at 06/2020. Freepost Audi Financial Services.
Lookers Audi is a trading name of Lookers Motor Group Limited, 3 Etchells Road, West Timperley, Altrincham, WA14 5XS, registered in England & Wales Reg. No. 143470. Authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority. Lookers Motor Group Limited is a credit broker, not a lender. It can introduce you to a limited range of lenders which may pay it a commission.”

Didn’t you already order one that was in stock before lockdown?

Yeah but it’s being held for me whilst I’m on furlough. They assure me I’m free to pull out. I’m thinking if I do want to go ahead I should probably renegotiate and get an even bigger discount?

I ordered a Q3 for September delivery and got 14% discount the weekend before lockdown came into affect. I'll be looking to see if I can get a better deal now.

Aren’t you locked into the old dealing having factory ordered the car? Mine was in stock.

And are the dealership likely to be angered at attempts to renegotiate what was already a good deal?

Potentially, I gave them a call and my usual contact has not returned to the office yet. Spoke to someone else and I was told better deals coming out in July.. Not sure how certain that is and will try and get in touch with my usual contact before the end of the month.

From what I heard, it's a case of starting all over again, long as I can transfer my deposit I don't mind. Audi are giving a larger contribution and also offering a lower APR compared to what I was quoted at first. It may work out cheaper to do that and loose the 14% discount that I was given?

The devil is probably in the detail but 16k off an A8 is not neccasarily brilliant, down to 700 quid for an A1. The first three payments covered may hook a few in but personally I’d factor that in to the dealer contribution.

I suppose the way to approach it is, use your existing deal as a starting point and asking what they are able to do to improve on it.

Exactly, A8 being discounted up to £18K is nothing new.

I ordered at the same time (A4) and got approximately 20% discount though drive the deal.
Just redid the quote again and it's gone up by £1200, I'll be sticking with my original deal!

Thanks for that. I used my local dealer instead of using a similar site, I do know the A4 had some better endorsements at the time but the wife wanted a Q3 and we've brought from this dealer/sales person before. I'll keep this thread updated with what I do in the end

make sure you consider the talk about the scrappage scheme.

So basically the Motoring trade body wrote to the Govt asking them to offer a scrappage scheme for all vehicles (including purchase of new Diesel and Petrol engines). Now the Govt made a commitment to move to Electric so there will be a big hoohah over whether it happens and what cars will be included, but may be worth holding fire a month or so until things a bit clearer.

Interestingly the car manufacturers and bodies have said now people know a scheme may be in the offering, they may wait even longer exacerbating the issue.

Also, lastly, let's say the Govt announces the scheme only on Hybrid and Electric, then may give you some additional negotiating power of Petrol/Diesel still by telling the dealer you'll go elsewhere unless they up their discount/offer on petrol or diesel engines as you can save more going for Hybrid/Electric.

This is currently where I am now basically waiting to know which way the wind will blow...

The Lookers deal is an Audi UK deal according to Audi's website

Not sure if it's available across the range or only on certain models that they need to shift

You can always ask them to look at changing your deal, but I wouldn't say that the discounts they are advertising now are "substantial" or any more than what could usually be achieved through CarWow etc

Not sure if I’m posting in the right place, but I’m looking for an A3 black edition with tech pack etc.. I’ve spoken to a few dealers who have knocked off about £500 but not sure if to commit as ive heard rumours the prices will be slashed when the recession properly hits and don’t want to lose loads of value in the car

Might be worth seeing what I mentioned above, car scrappage offer might be in the coming weeks if you have one to scrap

The thrill of a car sporting four rings - honestly, it cracks me up.

Have you called your dealer to ask or are you still swithering about the deal like all your other posts smile

Not all dealers have woken up to the current situation and the fact that after a short flurry of activity on reopening there will be months, maybe years when it’s going to be a hard battle for car buyers business.
Briefly; Mon 1st June I tried to buy a used car from a franchised dealer. Sticker price was a bit high so I made an offer 10% below. The usual theatre of ‘going to speak to my manager’ took place whilst I twiddled my thumbs. On return the salesperson said they couldn’t do anything on the price, not even correcting the minor cosmetics. The conversation dried up.I walked. Then reflected on the fact that I had walked into their premises, on day one of reopening. I had the means to buy and there was no desire at all to sell me a car. I even suggested free delivery as a means of moving discussions on. After another visit to the managers office this was also refused. They didn’t even ask how I intended to pay, if I’d take their finance, or any of the usual questions. I wasn’t expecting something for nothing just a decent deal, I’d have bought there and then. I won’t name names but it was a large dealer group, SE England. Staggered at how I was treated. Not rudely, but nonchalance and lack of engagement. My job is sales and business development, I would not have let a customer leave the premises without giving it my best shot. I still have my money.
