Hi everyone,

I'm looking for a "hothatch" on a fairly low budget of 3-4K. I did my research on all cars in this segment and I narrowed it down to the ones I like the most, the Vauxhall Corsa D GSI and the Fiat Grande Punto / Punto Evo 1.4 T jet.

I am aware of the Corsa piston/gearbox ect problems and couldn't really find anything real bad about the Fiat and the 1.4 tjet.
What I like about the Corsa is the looks (in subtile colors) that it has a bigger displacement / more power from factory and they are dirt cheap..
I think the Punto also looks good and the Fiat t-jet engine seems to be reliable. I rather not be driving and always be worried the engine will blow up on me..

btw I did found a "possible cause" of this piston 4.. Anyone think if this is legit?

If someone has experience with both cars I would also like to hear!

What are your thoughts on this? Are the known problems on the Corsa overdone / an easy fix? Or better to skip this car and go for the punto

Out of interest what led you to look at those two? Is it insurance related?

Only reason I ask is because the most common response to this will be people trying to suggest alternatives. There are a lot of traditionally 'better' hatches available for that budget but of course if you've done research I'm sure you've settled on these for a reason.

I can't offer any ownership advice but I did have a friend who had the Punto and really liked it. Not world beating but certainly a very interesting first car. I personally think they're better looking than the Corsa D facelift as well.

It has nothing to do with insurance but I do want a turbo charged engine because of the torque. The Corsa facelift I do like but they go for arond 6-6.5K and that is a bit over my budget. What other alternatives do I have? I want turbo charged, 2007 and above, hatchback and 120+ hp, around 4-4.5 max.

A Mito is a slightly more interesting alternative to a Punto
