Is anybody else finding that the fruit doesn't seem to last very long?

I bought a pack of strawberry and blueberry and have been kept in the fridge, not even a week before they started to get a little mould especially the blueberry.

would washing them as soon as I bought them and drying them help?

Expiry date is nearly always 3/4 days after purchase date in M+S/Sainsbury.

Frozen fruit is a good alternative in oats/smoothie.

We've been getting a mixed box of fruit , veg and dairy produce delivered from the local fruit and veg shop over the past weeks , it seems to last twice as long as well as actually tasting of the fruit it is , the strawberries are particularly tasty compared to the m&s ones .

Take a Tupperware container, put some kitchen roll in the bottom, place the strawberries on the kitchen roll, not touching if possible.Put the lid on,put in fridge. Will last longer.
Also if you have bananas they make other fruits ripen quicker so keep them separate or put them in a plastic bag

i suppose it could apply to some other fruit.. but if you want tomatoes to last longer, place them upside down in the fridge..if you want to go even further put a little masking tape over the green bit ontop. it dries out frrom there.

I've not been buying as much fresh since the lockdown as previously, because each time I've been the supermarket (mainly Asda) the best before dates have been noticeably shorter than they used to be pre-lockdown. Stuck with buying frozen fruit for over-night oats and using my garden grown herbs for pasta dishes etc.

Yes, washing and drying before refrigerating will help as it removes spores from the outside of the fruit.

To the point where washing berries with a mild detergent can improve storage considerably, especially things like grapes.

And, as above, once washed and dried an air tight container will help.

The real answer though is to thoroughly check the fruit in store and buy more often. Week old fresh produce is never going to be great compared to fresh.
