Home Insurance - Year of construction accuracy?

When I look for insurance if I state my home was built in 1990 rather than 1899 the price halves.

Does year of construction need to be fully accurate?

That sound extreme. Have you tried another insurer. When I've filled my forms in I'm sure the word approximate featured.

1899.

But...
1899 = £300
1900 = £150

It's a big difference, especially when the extras are added.

It's an old terraced house. No such frivolous extras are on it . I'll be lucky if it has foundations let alone a carved number!

Actually, I can't find the date in my docs. Looking at old maps though it's not there in 1886 and is there in 1901!

they are banded with most insurers, however, as usual each insurer uses different banding

What documentation shows the house to be 1899?
