Aux in noise issue on THR10

Nice new THR10 V2 here, guitar sound is perfect.

I plugged from the PC into the AUX in and get tons of hissy noise etc.

Thinking it was a cheap cable, I bought a better shielded cable, only to find this has made no difference...grr..

Google led me to a post on a forum saying that a Ground loop isolator solved the issue as it is apparently down to mains electric and the speakers or something.

The other thing I havnt tried yet is there is a noise gate on the amp, but Im not sure if that works on the Aux in.

Ground loops usually make a buzz not a hiss.

Have you played music from the PC or just plugged in the cable and thought that doesn't sound right?
Adjust PC and/or aux vol. Does the hiss or playing music change?
Have you tried anything else to the Aux in? Say portable telephone or other PMP.

Have you used the PC Aux out before (with other kit), so already know that it's normally quiet (or noisy)?

Hiss is often caused by a poor signal-to-noise ratio. Set all of the volume controls on your PC to max, and keep the Yamaha volume down. Does this help?

PC out into headphones or speakers is fine.

Still struggling with this.

i have found that on occasion it can very quiet and useable, but its mostly to noisy to use.

Its not the NC on the headphones as Ive turned that on and off.

I now suspect it maybe from the connection out of the pc as sometimes windows says Ive removed the jack plug when I havnt.

I cant change the output withiut changing the case, so thats not going to happen.

My PC speakers (Creative T20) have a jack socket and that casues the same issue.

Is it because the source is the PC, or poor Jack connection - in which case, would a new improved soundcard make any difference?

ETA - Just tried using Ipad out into the Amp and its seems perfectly fine ?

• iPad into THR10 is fine

If you get the same results with a different cable too, then yes I'd guess it's the PC output. Try something cheap but reputable as a new soundcard, e.g. Creative Sound Blaster Audigy FX 5.1 for c. £23, or one of many USB/external soundcards.

Nearly right...

PC - THR noisy
PC - THR Via Speakers jack plug noisy
IPad - THR fine.

I think I will try a cheap card and see what that does. Ive asked on a Yamaha specific fora and had no replies, so I guess Im on my own....

UPDATE -

Spoke to Yamaha, and the guy was very helpfull.

He suggested a USB External sound card - primarily to keep the sound digital until it was outside the PC case.

Bought a £15 card from the 'zon and its a big improvement.

Not perfect, as there is still noise, but its useable........
