Staffs police declare track days illegal.
Discussion
A trail event was planned for today, full social distancing in place, and yesterday the police, and council attended, and allowed to go ahead.
This morning the police have turned up, and closed the event.
The relevant part is this, all motorcycle activity anywhere in the uk today with more than 6 people on site at any one time is defined as illegal by chief superintendent Carl Ratcliffe of Staffordshire police.
What right does he have to define the law as this, and will it have implications for track days?

He may technically be right:
"7.—(1) During the emergency period, unless paragraph (2) applies, no person may participate in a gathering which takes place in a public or private place—
(a)outdoors, and consists of more than six persons," and,
"(3) For the purposes of this regulation—
(a)there is a gathering when two or more people are present together in the same place in order to engage in any form of social interaction with each other, or to undertake any other activity with each other;"
Bur he is still a prick if everyone is practicing social distancing and being sensible. I wonder if Staffordshire saw any Floyd protests and if so what did they do about it. If there was I'll hazard a guess that what they did about it was the square root of f**k all

He doesn't have any personal right to define the law (excepting a few minor powers which can be authorised by a senior officer in public order context). It would be necessary to know exactly which law he believed applied, and to consult a lawyer on that.I'll speculate that the amended Regulation 7, Health Protection (Coronavirus, Restrictions) (England) Regulations 2020 is probably relevant:
"7.—(1) During the emergency period, unless paragraph (2) applies, no person may participate in a gathering which takes place in a public or private place—
(a) outdoors, and consists of more than six persons, or
(b) indoors, and consists of two or more persons."

( Motorsport does not appear in the exempted activities listed in para 2)
