Sub 20k big comfy wont ruin me

Had plans at start of year to shift the ye old c class but ya know things have gotten in the way and there is less urgency since its done sub 10 miles since march the 12th and well both of us will likely be perm wfh from now on

But we still need to shift it we are after something large can seat 4 adults in proper comfort not just fit and have a bit of space.
Heated seats pref cooled and massage too nice if rear has at least heat.
A boot that can take 2/3 weeks luggage for 4 adults nice if it has spilt fold rears but not essential.
Cracking stereo doubt id get android auto functionality in budget as too new. Reversing camera (bad memories of an ls400 with not even parking sensors) etc all that std stuff these days

Extra points for picnic tables etc

25+Mpg diesel or petrol but dont really want huge tax. Manageable servicing costs ie no need to use main dealer and fingers crossed minimal bork!

My front runner at the moment is a xj lwb portfolio 2013 onwards with the diesel engine or charged 3.0

BMW 6 series Gran Coupe.

Loads of space, huge boot. Pick one with 18 or 19” wheels and the ride is good.
640i petrol not bad on fuel, 640D ridiculously low fuel usage ( seen 55mpg on boring motorway run, 45 mpg easy).

I bought a 2015 one from main dealer for £19k last October. It was cheaper than equivalent 5 series in same spec.

Whats a 600h like on fuel tho i hit 30mpg once in the ls400 then never more than 20 really and usually sub 15

Love my 2013 730d and I don't think it's cost much more to run than my previous 5 series.

I wouldn’t let the road tax sway your decision too much. High fuel consumption is an indirect way of paying stacks of tax. For a lux barge it will be the bork (or lack of) that makes it ruinous or a relative bargain. I’d go for a 730d as it will be a great all rounder and they are relatively cheap second hand.

Another vote for a 640d and I did 70k miles in one, it is a great cruiser. Also consider a SUV because they are a nice vehicle to cover miles in too I reckon.

Isn't the 640 quite limited in boot space / shape though? I mentioned the Q7 because the rear doesn't feel dark or cramped, especially with the pano roof. Gives great visibility for all occupants and lovely ride with the air suspension in comfort mode.

My father used to have an 2009 (I think) S class. That ride was so soft and wafty it actually made me sick as I felt like I was out at sea!
