Probably not the most exciting thread you've clicked on today!

I've just picked up a Triumph Sprint RS and I'm trying to find a phone mount that will work.

I can't use a stem mount because there is a non-removable chrome plate covering the hole. I also only have about 1cm width of free space on the handlebar. I'm trying to think how or where else I can fit one.

I have a similar issue on my Z10000SX, I just bought a cheap X mount to get the bracket and ball and extentsion that will bolt to the clutch lever perch with a longer bolt and then bought an ultimate addons case with the 3 prong male fitting

so this

and this

You can of course just use the x-grip (and I did for a couple of years) but wanted a proper case for the phone.

Or just buy a different top yoke nut

That "non removable chrome plate" is the top yoke nut and will undo, then you can fit a RAM mount for your bike, first one I found, you may find cheaper.

You can then mount it in the same fashion as I did with my old Firestorm (I used a Ultimateaddons case)

If you're using your phone as a SatNav device fair enough. If you want to make and receive calls when riding then I'd advise against it.

I just bought a quadlock and it seems to do the job just right, you can have it portrait or landscape, not the cheapest but for the first order you can get a 10% off , well made too. Always worth a look

Quadlock, quite pricey but very very good.

I have a quadlock mount on my mtn bike, plenty of off road and the quadlock is rock solid.

The 2 leading mounts appear to be either the SP Connect or Quadlock systems. Both offer very similar, but SP is slightly cheaper. Quadlock more rigid. SP has built in wobble. Some say Quadlock affects camera phone stabilisation systems (maybe only for people who use their smartphones for recording whilst on the go???)

Why is that then? I take calls all the time and listen to music every time I ride, I'm not dead yet.

I don’t know which model apart from it’s a stem mount, but there’s a Quadlock that’s passing harsh vibrations and damaging iPhone cameras - image stabilisers. It seems very prevalent, so might be worth checking reviews before buying.

I was just about to buy a Quadlock for my new phone, but i have been reading posts about issues of vibration from the mount & motorcycle which is damaging the optical image stabiliser in phones. Quadlock is aware of this and said it was only affecting a small percentage of owners.
I assume this could affect all mounts, but it does make me think twice about using a phone mount on my bike for my new phone. Maybe make sure you have phone insurance.

With regard to my above post on iPhones....

It's quite an issue - model dependent, I guess, but do check before you buy if you're an iPhone user.

Another vote for QuadLock. No problems at all and has been fine with the Samsung phones I have used with it.

Yes, same. You have to shout quite loud for them to hear you on speakerphone, you'll end up with a very sore throat in no time.

Don't tell me that your concentration isn't affected when you take or make a call. Calls can wait until you are parked up somewhere. On a bike you can't afford any drop in your concentration levels.

Hahaha really some of you need to get a grip, I've been taking calls for years, been using helmet comms ever since they were introduced, I can happily hold a conversation at 80mph with the wife and she can't even tell I'm on the bike, if the phone rings when I'm in heavy traffic or a busy town it gets sent to answerphone but if your not capable of holding a conversation whilst riding at 60mph on a quiet A road/dual carriageway or motorway you shouldn't be riding a bike.

Next you'll be telling me it's unsafe to speak with a mate who's riding with me through the comms!

I did a 3000 mile euro trip and spoke constantly to my friend who was with me and listened to music and and took phone calls and listened to sat nav directions, I only died 7 times in the whole trip.
