Hi Everyone,

Looking for a bit of advice on this. The Mrs has a Nissan Juke (pre-owned) from the (Sounds similar to lookout) dealership and it came with 9 month warranty. That 9 months ran out during the Covid lockdown. During the lockdown it developed an issue with the ABS.

However the garage firstly just put the phone down on us (Cheeky sods) and then when I asked to speak to the dealer principle I was put onto a phone that was never answered.

After this BS I rang Nissan and they have said that what dealerships do is up to them but they have noted my complaint.

Before I go down and go full autistic mode on them, any thoughts or advice ?

Have you got any evidence of the fault being reported when the car was still inside warranty? (E.g. emails)

Well, I would have thought the onboard computer would record the fault time?

It may have done, it may not. Unfortunately getting to that stage will involve booking the car in with the service department, which as you’ve found seems difficult. Proof of the fault being reported such as an email or booking via telephone (for which the dealership would have raised a job sheet, which will have the date on which it’s raised somewhere) would make your case pretty much watertight.

I’d personally go down and have a discussion (without chucking your toys out of the pram, yet laugh) with the service manager-this is an issue that no doubt will have occurred several times. In fact quite a few manufacturers have indicated they’ll be flexible with regards to service intervals and warranty claims-by the sounds of it this is an aftermarket rather than manufacturer warranty though, which are notorious for looking for any reason not to pay out.

Yeah, its easier to get bees with honey rather than vinegar for sure. I'm going to pop down tomorrow and speak to them in person. They did also promise to get back to me before close of play today (They didnt).

I can see this getting rather crap, rather quick but fingers crossed.

If you report the issue in warranty, they must fix it. If it’s out of warranty, then speak nicely to the customer care. They may make an exception.

Could you not have sent them an email during lockdown?
It's now your word against theirs that this happened when you say it did - a lot of faults aren't timestamped.

I feel like a letter or email sent a few weeks ago would have saved you a lot of hassle...!

How did you call them? Potentially a phone bill will show the number you called and how long you were on the phone for. They might struggle to suggest you called them for a chat as you were bored.

Their own in house warranty will exclude brakes as a wear and tear item.
However, it'll likely exclude just about anything else as well if they can get away with it..

Only friction materials will typically be excluded. However I don’t disagree if it’s not a manufacturer backed warranty they’ll wriggle like hell to get out of paying for a claim (experience)...
