Would like your thoughts on this.

So I bought a mountain bike shock off Fb market place. Had a mutual friend with the seller, so sent a message to the friend prior to purchase who said he was legit and in the industry.

It took 6 days for this chap to send the item, which was a bit annoying, but gave the guy the benefit of doubt. Infact it wasn't the lack of sending, moreover the lack of comms.

Unfortunately this item was then sent with Hermes, it has now been 6 days since it was last scanned. I messaged the chap to highlight this, but have had no meaningful response. Hermes website states if an item has not been scanned for 3 days then it is lost.

At what point shall I raise this with paypal as a dispute, clearly I dont want to see the chap out of over £300, equally i would have sent the item with a more reputable courier.

Would it be unreasonable to dispute now or shall I wait another week?

Why the Hermes hate? I've received dozens and sent about 6 items with them this year and nothing has gone astray?

Nothing wrong with Hermes. Everything I order seems to come from them, including John Lewis stuff.
In the current circumstances, I’d give it another couple of days

I think the hate, might wrongly be driven from me reviewing social media posts on hermes for the past week haha. I bought another item from an online seller which was posted on the same day still yet to be seen also.

I guess I feel marginally more exposed due to this being a 'private' sale, rather than through a business.

MyHermes are dire. They recently were responsible for delivering part of an Amazon order for me, a single item with other items coming via other carriers. I got a message from MyHermes saying they tried to deliver the item at 23:56 one night but got no answe, and an hour after they logged it back into the depot saying they couldn't find a safe place to leave the item, hence the return to depot.

I was in the house, awake and no one was on my property. At no point did anyone from MyHermes visit my address or attempt a delivery. No note was left, so I contacted their customer services to arrange an actual delivery. Their response was that "The vendor prefers a quick resolution so please contact them instead of us. I spoke to Amazon, who offered a refund for the lost item or a replacement to be sent. With no belief that I'd ever actually receive the item, I took the refund.

Sorry OP, but this company are totally incompetent and I think your item is long gone.

If it was posted 31st to about 2nd June they’ve had a bar code problem with their systems meaning 3 of my parcels have gone to parcel heaven. Your bike bit may be in the same place. May the Lord have mercy etc.

Oh cock. Even with barcode issues surely they could re-label, as it'd have all the relevant info on it - sounds super sloppy to me.

Let's hope the sender suitably insured the item for his sake, I'm glad I PayPal'd it!

Hermes have had an issue recently with barcodes, three days worth of parcels had incorrect barcodes and have had to be sorted manually. I had a few emails from Hermes about it.

My three are last showing as scanned on 2nd. Hang on...
This is the email after the one above....

We wrote earlier this week to inform you that your parcel(s) had been impacted by a technical labelling issue and that there may be a slight delay in arrival at your recipient(s).

Many of these parcels have now been delivered, so please continue to check the tracking status of your shipment(s). You can be confident that a 'Delivered' status is accurate, allowing you to make any required updates.

All affected parcels have been hand-sorted and had their labels checked. We are committed to delivering any remaining parcels in the coming week.

We would again like to apologise for any inconvenience that this has caused.

Many thanks for your patience,

The Hermes Team

All that means is the self employed driver was pretty tired at midnight after delivering 200 items so decided yours could wait til tomorrow.

Not saying it's right, but it's also not right to call an entire company incompetent on the back of it. Go on any courier social media and it'll be full of the same complaints.

...and I’d also add Hermes are usually spot on. Sent 100’s of eBay sales via myhermes with stuff usually being delivered well within the 3-5 day window.

My local Hermes guy is a joke, ordered some £140 trainers, was at work when they got “delivered” and signed by me..

Got home and there was a sorry we missed you card, nothing written on it at all, but parcel showed being delivered online...

Asked 5 houses each way of my house if they had anything, nothing!

2 days later a woman came with my parcel from 2 roads down, she said she was waiting for me to come and get it, but as I hadn’t, she came to me, I told her I had no idea where they were delivered!

Sample size of two. Hermes has been a shambles for me. I would never send with them, and they've screwed up 50% of the orders I've had coming my way.

OP, raise the issue with Hermes, contact the sender to do the same and when Hermes admit they lost it, get your money back and leave the seller to pursue Hermes for the value of the lost parcel.

This is another issue, everything is automated, chat bot and phone lines. There is no way to speak to a human being or contact otherwise, which frustrates matters somewhat! Only the sender can question a parcel as lost.

I’m sure they have to take a photo, or maybe that’s for safe space only? My guy forgot and had to come back and take a pic, so it must be required for him to get paid.

I had a Hermes parcel lost recently, I contacted them and they said to ask for a refund from the seller and to tell them they could then submit a claim with Hermes, so he might only be out of pocket temporarily. No experience myself with actually getting money from Hermes though!

I had a parcel go missing this month with hermes.
They didn't give a toss.
I will never use parcel2go or hermes again.
Be warned.

Compared to your sample of one person with a few parcels? Hardly represents a European average does it?

Herpes are cheap for a reason, they're crap. UPS are also going that way. I've sent thousands of parcels and the only two who have lost them are those two. I've never used Yodel though....

cjs racing.

Ordered over 20 parcels in the last 6 weeks.

Only 2 have had issues, both with Hermes.

Both times the parcel made it to our local delivery office, but both time never left to to be delivered to us.

Not the first issue we have had with them sadly.

Had to be refunded by buyers both times, will no longer buy from anyone who delivers via them.
