I think theres still plenty of noise, but its far from what what it used to be.
Much much more aggression, Laods of banned members under new ID;s.
The community side of PH has all but disappeared sadly. I used to get a lot of social activity via PH but that seems to have died sadly.
Still one of the busiest fora I know, and with some incredible knowledge from a lot of guys.
I miss the PetrolTed days for sure, and I do wish PH had a regular home, but it feels like its just going to get past around to the highest bidder until the traffic drys up.

A lot of people are following the classic PH position of ridiculing or disbelieving posts because it is outside their knowledge or understanding, many people are posting because they are just bored and fire off the first dumb thing that enters their mind.
I introduced a respected a classic saloon car racer, he has been racing 18 years in classic Fords, knows a great deal, I thought he would be an asset and help others, because he appeared to be a newbie people shot him down and called him a fantasist, a Walter Mitty

As a relative newby on the forum it does seem pretty active but I have also noticed the amount of arguments on here with people going personal at the earliest opportunity.
NPE and some other sections clearly show that a good number of users only want to argue and can not allow another reply to counter what they wrote without having the last sarcastic word on the matter in the form of a personal attack.
I think this reflects the immature level of debate generally within the UK at the moment, and it can also be seen in our general mainstream media.
But if you try to put that aside the forum is still a good place to come and discuss topics. However I learn that as it used to be about TVRs and has since expanded, as one of the replies above mentioned, there currently isn't really a friendly community feel as there probably once used to be, it feels more like its every man for himself.

I've a bit of an addiction to looking at NPE even though it's currently dominated by CV19 which is a bit tedious (but understandable).
Though back in the Labour government days, every other thread on that forum was along the lines of "OMG - look what the nutters have done/said now!!!" And each of those threads would get to about 50 pages in a day.
PH is still at it's best though if you want to ask some advice on something non-political, like I did recently on stairlifts. Then it's 1st class.

Obvious as it sounds theres just less to actually talk about right now. People are starved of input. I look at the f1 forum and there's whole discussions on what was known to be worthless tabloid puff months ago.
Not that that hasn't always gone on... But it was along with so much else... And most knew when to roll their eyes!

It seems there is no room for discussion any more. For example, you post a view at odds with the thread consensus, and instead of the old days where someone would ask you to explain your thinking, it's now a 'pile on lads, we've got one!' And you are 'bullied off a thread'.
Or you get 'this is a forum for Lotus/TVR/Ferrari/Make of choice don't come here with your bile'

I used to predominantly stay in the Local Area and kit car sub sections, but these have now almost entirely become defunct.
My local area hasn't had a post in it for several months. And the kit car forum has gone the same way as the kit car industry. Very limited posts and little new content and always by the same few people. Five to Ten years ago both forums were highly active and lots of local meets and runs organised.
As its grown I've seen people drift away and more and more non petrol heads/car enthusiasts commenting. For me it is no longer an automotive forum, it is a general interest forum with an automotive undertone.

My rule for here is go nowhere near News, Pillocks, and Economics or Speed, Plod, and The Lunatics.
They're the forums where the rot really is at its worst, and people just attack anything that they don't know.
Otherwise, there's still some gems but they need to be found. Lots of people go nowhere near GG or any of the larger forums.

Agree with that. You would think that if you had no experience of something or didn't know enough to comment that there would be some sort of filter between the brain and the fingertips that says 'don't type just read'. But no, the half wits just plough on and the people with something useful to say walk away and leave PH to idiots from Stafford and such places.JakeT said:

Yep, I stay away from those and GG too. I find the Homes and DIY section to be good, however there are a lot of folk on there who have imcomprehensively high standards. A house that looks absolutely perfect to me is "ready to be knocked down" in other peoples opinions because the screws in one of the light switches aren't set with the slot vertical (bit extreme but you know what I mean).
I think it’s getting less and less busy as forums become more and more out of date and people move on elsewhere. Added to that all the issues mentioned about in NPE and SPL drive some people away. I also think that if you were a new member it could come across quite cliquey with all the “hammer sausages into the lawn” “dominate the stairs” “mx5” and other in jokes before you even get to all the stupid “powerfully built Director” and people living a fantasist life type stuff.

It has always been the case though. When I joined up there was a chap posting about 'finding' a TVR at the bottom of his farm lane. He was ousted as a fantasist with multiple login ID's, but that became the equivalent of powerfully built director for a long time.
Even for an old timer like me it takes a while to catch on to the latest 'thing'. Still not sure about the sausages thing.

This.Atop of which, the media focus on one subject to whip people up, they went from ISIS, to Brexit, to Covid19/Cummings & are now on BLM.
And another thing...
I guess PH was originally a real focus for car enthusiasts in the absence of alternatives. But over time more specialist sites have become common place and posters drift to them for more specific advice/discussion. PH car sections may have become a bit too general?

I got fed up with PH and binned it.
First thing I did was go to CTF.
Now that place was a clique, slow and full of banned PHers slagging off this place. Some good honour though.

It’s closed down now.
Then a few years on Reddit, I found Reddit to be less toxic that PH.
Now I’m back.
I find PH now far better than before.
But I only generally go on certain threads.
I find PH to be a reflection of the U.K. as a whole. To many people have nothing to say, and they are saying it to loud.
But I have to say, why let any one on here wind you up. Just move on. Most on here probably live at home with mummy at 35 and are angry at the world.
