Deciding between these two coupes. They are similar money (low 50’s), similar miles on both;

997.2 GTS PDK 2011

991.1 2S PDK 2013-2014

Likely to be 2nd car doing less than 5k miles a year.

What would you go for and why?

If you want pdk it’s better in the 991. A 997 can feel a bit old fashioned these days (basic, upright dash) but that can bring a certain certain charm too.

If it were me and it’s two specific cars I’d choose based on condition and spec more than model. A 997 GTS 2wd without centre lock wheels and no sunroof would be just lovely!

arcamalpha - this was mine. Sadly damaged in the fire at Porsche Bolton in 2017...

I personally would choose a 997.2 GTS over a 991.1 S but you would have to try one of each and make a personal decision, you are unlikely to be disappointed in either.

Very different cars....it really depends what you want from the car. The point about the PDK being better is a good one...I have read of people going back to a 997 from a 991 because there were other things they preferred to find the PDK in the 997 felt a bit dated. That said if you never try the 991 that won’t matter !

People will tell you about the size off the 997 vs 991...but it’s a bit deceptive. The 997 GTS has the wide body so I am guessing it will actually be wider at the rear arches than the 991. Cabin is narrower though so it feels smaller physically.

One thing that is definitely better in the 997 is the steering and it’s also a more involving drive for me...chassis/suspension is a but sharper than the 991.1. Car feels smaller because of that.

For me as a weekend car I’d have the 997 GTS...PDK better in 991.1 but everything else better in 997 GTS for me.

I will declare my bias as I have a manual 997 GTS and can’t say I like the 991 Carrera S. Think it’s more GT than Sports Car...997 feels like a sports car.

Completely agree with that. I’d have kept mine if it was manual.

Agree - my 997GTS is a manual, and it's a keeper! Last of the hydraulic steering and all the better for it. IMO it's a perfect analogue road car. All the performance you will ever need for the road, brilliant to drive from 1/10th all the way to 10/10ths, affordable to run, maintain and insure and you can get 2 sets of golf clubs in the back. What's not to like......................
