Quite simply, I was wondering if there is an easy way to find out the maximum torque my standard clutch can take?

Manufacturers will give a torque rating but its moot as to whether it is much use to you.

If its with regards to tuning, the amount of torque is relevant but it can also depends how the torque is delivered, a lot of mapping is done to avoid torque spiking too quickly and overwhelming the drivetrain components. Its better to bring the torque in across a greater rev range than all in one go, its the change that seems to kill things, as much as the overall value.

Also, the torque rating will be for a new clutch, any wear and that limit may be breached sooner than expected.

I had a Saab 9-3 Aero and the remap company said the clutch would be fine, it wasnt, car had 50k on at that point.

Poster Max Torque will be able to give a much better explanation.

Well my car is a 2017 Seat Leon 1.4tsi ACT 150. I'm asking as I can't find any info online as to what the limit should be according to VW/Seat. It was also just a general question about any car. Maybe there is a website out there with this kind of info or you just have to phone a dealership. Not that they would probably even know because they're not interested. I even tried looking at places that sell clutches but they only seem to suggest ratings on upgraded clutches.
Fact is I wouldn't mind a remap and I don't drive hard all the time. I'd use the extra power for overtaking really. So not as likely to kill a clutch quickly. My car has only done near 17k.

Best thing to do is find a parts catalogue and cross reference what's on your car with the other models in the range. You might find the clutch and gearbox are used on other engines like the lower powered 2.0T

Where would I be able to get hold of a catalogue like that? You would think it would be easier to just have web sites for these things. Is it some kind of mechanics catalogue that registered businesses get?
