I'm going to turn 40 this year, I think that I missed the last ten years or so when I blinked around lunch time ;-). The family have suggested the idea of a dress watch manufactured in my birth year 1980 as a present witch is lovely. Budget in the region of £1400 to 1800 ish.

So I'm looking for some recommendations for a dress watch that fits the bill and places that I can trust my family to to buy said watch.

Thanks for any and all responses.

The typical dress watch will be a smallish watch from that era. Maybe a 1980 Thin Slim Stainless Steel Jaeger le Coultre Automatic - 5001.40 - 34mm (stolen from a eBay ad)

Chrono24 is an excellent suggestion.

By coincidence my dress watch is from 1980, only a quartz but it has sentimental value (it belonged to my wife’s grandfather). A lovely thing and I feel very lucky to have it.

A little tip which won’t hell the op but may help others.

Start looking for the watch a year before your birthday as the sellers aren’t blind to the fact that it is a significant birth year watch and prices normally increase in the year only to drop down again when 41 years old.

I have a birth year 1984 16013 Rolex DJ 36.

There is a white gold version as well, which looks more subtle.

You will have to up the top end budget a bit, but this is PH, right?
