Hi everyone

Does anyone know this car? Previous owner, mechanic etc? A buddy back home in the UK has seen it advertised for sale and is thinking of taking a look. It’s an early Griff I believe with about 50k miles. Anything specific he should look for apart from the obvious rust, engine condition etc?

Thanks as always.

MoT runs out in August, so if it has 50k on it, it's had a hard year (for a TVR!): At last year's test on 13/08/19, it failed on the brakes, which was resolved and it passed on 20/08/19:

MOT history

Date tested
20 August 2019
PASS

40,904 miles

Expiry date
19 August 2020
Monitor and repair if necessary (advisories):
Offside Rear Lower brake lamp lens slight crack, but not emitting white

Date tested
13 August 2019
FAIL

40,867 miles

Do not drive until repaired (dangerous defects):
Nearside Rear Service brake has no recorded effort at a wheel (1.2.1 (a) (ii))
Offside Rear Service brake has no recorded effort at a wheel (1.2.1 (a) (ii))

Repair immediately (major defects):
Service brake efficiency below requirements (1.2.2 (a) (i))

It also had a replacement V5c issued on 20th March 2020. It may be just that it was lost or the owner moved house. But it could also be somebody who really needs to sell it due to issues, either financial or discovered on the car. frown

Thank you - I did a brief MOT history but hadn’t seen about the V5, I will pass that on to him.

If this is the car I think I have seen posted on FB then it is one of the very first registered Griffiths, Jan 1992, probably within the first 10 production cars built. The early cars have one or two things that might make parts a challenge like the speedo drive in the gearbox so make sure the speedo works and odometer (not sure if the odometer works off the speedo drive though). Check the state of the seats underneath as the wire supports can rust out. Do the heater and ventilation controls work? All the switches etc. Check the metal heater pipes as best you can under the intake manifold as the early cars again can have hard to source pipes if they are rusted out. Check the fuel hoses and connections where they come out of the tank and fuel filter. My Feb 92 car had fittings I never saw on other Griffiths ie some sort of hose diameter reducer fitting. What is the general condition of the wiring too.

Thank you so much. I just checked and yes, he did see it on FB for sale in East Sussex somewhere so that’s probably the same one. I will pass that info over. I have suggested he would be better buying from a specialist that knows these cars inside out than privately. He is new to TVR and I know nothing about them either.

Thanks again

Hi All!

She's mine and would be staying if I didn't need 4 seats in a rush as I'm changing jobs.

To address the above:

Rear brake caliper replaced entirely!

Speedo works spot on.

It does, like all of them have some rust on the chassis, but it isn't structural, could easily be cleaned up and used as is.

I have full history documenting it all, so all verifiable.

The reg change, I was simply kind when I bought the car and gave the reg plate back to "Lou Cifer" as he's known on FaceBook who was the previous owner of 14 years and had his initials on it.

Engine had a £5k rebuild (documented) 10,000 miles back, with a cam upgrade and is healthy!

Hi Spec brakes, ACT smooth bore induction, good tyres, pads and discs, comes with about £800.00 worth of unfitted new bits too!

Hope that clears it up a bit.

It isn't mint, but if it was, I'd be asking £25,000.00 it is however a real bargain Griff!

Any questions, drop me a line on 07834228821 smile Miles

Oh and I replaced that very fuel hose this weekend when I gave the car a full 12k service too! smile
