News here is Alexis Ohanian has resigned from the board of Reddit on the condition he’s replaced by a black person.

I’ve just watched an interview where he used phrases like “I felt it was appropriate for me to step aside and give up my seat at the table”.

Now, I’m not black - far from it in fact. Looking at the situation as an outsider, I couldn’t help but feel that if I were black, I would actually find it pretty insulting that this was the only way Reddit could expand their number of black board members. That it required a white guy to decide when to give up his seat at the table, not the free market ensuring the best person was appointed.

Can someone please help me to understand why this Is being pushed as a positive way for the transition to happen and how it’s not insulting?

The cynic in me says he’s going to use the opportunity to springboard to something else.
