This is a member of the government & cabinet, but he can't respect Parliament enough to show up for questioning over the unlawful decision he made about a housing scheme...

He should be in the house to explain why his decision was "unlawful due to apparent bias". If he cannot explain himself then he should resign.

So the 2 are at a dinner together. What was discussed is not known.

1 day before a new tax which would cost the developer £40m the housing secretary signs off the development against the view of the planning inspectorate.

2 weeks after that the bloke drops a donation into the Tory party account.

Government say 'nothing to see here' and basically refuse to answer any questions about it.

What the fk is going on with this government and their attitude to parliament and democracy? They have a majority and seem to think they are untouchable and the people will believe whatever they are told. Same as the Cummings thing - it's lies, everyone can see it's lies, and yet the government are arrogant enough to think they can ignore it and the public will believe their version of events.

“The party told you to reject the evidence of your eyes and ears. It was their final, most essential command.” 1984.

First saw him on QT a few weeks/months ago and thought the same.

Unable to answer a simple Yes/No question with any sense, full of contradictions, etc.

Yes.

I find him quite personable.

But there does seem to be a bit of a theme around avoiding scrutiny with this lot.

It's telling when you can vote Conservative for 25 years other than one General Election and when you dare to suggest a Government minister might have questions to answer you're a "leftie".

Nothing like viewing the world through tribal blinkers I guess.

Didn't Nolan do standards in public life about 25 years ago?

Ie not just act properly, but be seen to be acting properly.

It's a joke..they just pay lip service to it. But only because the electorate let them of course.

We get the politicians we deserve.

Should have nutted him when you had a chance, fool!

As much as I read about this im still confused. Has the plot been rumbled? Has the crooked developer had his scheme to avoid paying 30m to the council been stopped?

A bunch of crooks that got in to government for personal gain and got stuck with the biggest crisis in history. God help us all.
