Is there any way to have 2 Google profiles on 1 account? I have a set of apps on my tablet and a different set of apps on my phone. Just had to wipe the phone and it's pulled in everything connected to the Google account. Is there any way to have 1 profile for the tablet and 1 for the phone?

I have 2 google profiles though one is my work one and doesn't end Gmail but in my work email... its fine having several things hooked into one and the other takes Gmail, etc.

Also do similar with hotmail, my hotmail is used for office and my company one is used for MS project and there is only a small amount of annoyance

Oh wait... too early... I have 2 accounts one system (Surface Pro/Chinese spy phone) not two profiles one account

Did you have each device set to do its own specific backup to your Google account? If you did then you can restore the device from a cloud backup on your Google account.

There are a number of options available, but first you have to clearly describe what it is you want to achieve on a day-to-day basis, and over long term usage.

I have no idea tbh.

I thought (assumed) my phone was backing up to my Google account in its own right, and I thought that when I logged back into the account with a clean phone, it would download all the apps and settings last backed up.

However, it appears that the only device backing up to the account is my tablet, and so it synced all the tablets apps and settings, which are very different to the ones used on my phone.

Suspect at some point I have turned off the backup from the phone to avoid all my pictures filling my Google drive. In doing so all the backing up of settings and apps has also stopped.

What I want, I guess, is a backup of the phone connected to my google account, which is apps and settings only, while also retaining the backup of the tablet's apps and settings. Ideally without using loads of google drive space.

Does that sound possible?

EDIT - It looks like there is a setting to prevent backing up of photos, so thats good. Does the backup of apps and such like take up space on my google account?

Look carefully into your phone settings. You can choose what you want to backup, and what you don't, for example in your case photos. Stuff like documents/files/photos are usually backed up by a specific app you enable to do so.

Your device backup is different, and the files are very small, so don't ever worry about it taking up storage space. I just took a look at my device backups on Drive. There are 6 devices saving backups on there for my main account, and each backup is measured in small double-digit KB's figures.

The Settings menu varies from device to device and manufacturer to manufacturer on Android, so all you need do is browse through your device settings and enable backups on each device you own. Some manufacturers have backup services on their own cloud services, but I try to avoid them due to previous experiences.

Thanks, I had a play last night and moved all the photos into Google Photos, which then freed up a load of space from the Google Drive, and have now ensured that everything goes to the right place. smile

It can be a little fiddly getting the settings right.

I've been using stock Google Nexus and Pixel devices since 2011 for exactly that reason. It brings simplicity and makes things obvious and seamless. When other manufacturers mess with android they tend to mess things up to a degree and obfuscate the simplest stuff needlessly. It's improved markedly down through the years, but it's still there to a degree in a lot of devices.
