So I applied Rain-X to my windshield today. Two coats of it, and followed instructions. Cleaned the windshield with auto glass cleaner, used a clay bar and cleaned it again. Applied the rain-x, I let it dry then I buffed it off, applied it again and buffed it off again this time with water and a dry MF cloth.
Now, whenever I use my wipers, the wipers are significantly slower, as if they struggle to go across the windscreen, and when they do, they judder like crazy. What should I do?

At risk of a whoosh......why do you need to use your wipers?

Well, I thought I'd test out the rain-x and I sprayed the windshield with a hose, my engine was on and the auto wipers kicked in and that's when I noticed it.

Why does anyone use there wipers?

Rainx does not mean you never need to use them you know while it works in light rain anything more then that you still need them

Try putting rain x on the wiper blade too

I won't use rain x because they sponsor BRAKE

Use some thinners or similar to remove the rain-x

Have you cleaned the wipers at all? Are they old and holding a lot of greasy crud etc

Just did that, still the same problem.

Also yes, the rain-x works wonders.

Just two bad side effects, that wiper judder (in my case), and you get a haze when you do use the wipers.

Rain-X is old tech, it's OK when first applied but after a day or so stuff like fine dust and pollen stick to it which then adds drag to the wiper blade.
Far better to get a proper nano coating applied as the rain just beads off once you're going 50+mph so don't need to use the wipers at all on the motorway.

I use this one and have had good results but there's plenty of similar ones around

Always thought the nanocoatings were rather expensive. I'll look out how rain-x behaves over the next week or so and If I don't like it ill change it out with that.

Rain-x is rubbish compared to modern chemicals. And they sponsor Brake as mentioned above - a very good reason not to use Rain-x.

You have probably made the same mistake most make... put too much on. It’s really hard to polish off if you have too much on and you end up with hazing and juddering.

I recently put rain x on my car and did all the windows, first one I put too much on and it was hard work to polish off. The rest I used very sparingly and it polished off easily and water just beads off brilliantly. No judder or hazing at all, and hardly need to use the wipers either to be fair.

Not surprised if I put on too much, I put it on a polishing pad which soaked up the rain-x, and maybe that's why I put on too much.

You might have buffed it a little too enthusiastically and removed the layer of Rain-X?
