Repair for canon dslr

Hi all
I've literally zero experience with this type of thing so hoping for some help please.
A few years ago I bought my wife a canon dslr as a present and it's stopped working, press the button and nothing happens, screen loads fine etc but won't take a picture
Way our of warranty so wondering what the best route is to arrange a repair please

Try changing the memory card or see if the write protect tab is off. If you delve into the canon menu there is an entry for "release shutter if card not present" or something similar. Sheck that and see if it works with no card present.

It was the shutter setting, changed the setting and the camera is working again now.

Great result. Wifey had been fiddling in the menus...!

I always keep my camera set that way - so (from my wedding days) I couldn't shoot a whole wedding onto thin air.
