Your definition of premium is different to mine and premium just means nicer plastics to touch, it doesn't mean they won't rattle or break down. However what you probably want is a BMW 130i

I would love a 130i but they are all 3 litre.

I'll have to blame the wine, i missed the bit about max 2.0.

I wouldn't touch a VW Polo, Golf or Scirocco if you want reliable. If you want reliable on that list then it has to be the Honda. I just cannot get on with the 208 steering wheel and they still have the odd issue with the timing chain. The only other small engine petrol thats a little bit premium is the mini, you may find a Paceman, Countryman or Clubman for your budget. You do need the N18 engine car but the problem with Minis is you never know if your going to get a good one or one thats a little bugger

Should I also forget the TT then? Doesn't that have the same engine as the 2 litre Golf GTI and Scirocco?

I think I’d be looking at a 1 series or a golf GTI.

Edited to add: scrap that I’d get a Mini Cooper S or if budget stretches a JCW.

Or what about a Clio Gordini. One on autotrader at Just over £7k

TT early ones belt driven and have the same problems as the Mk5 Golf, faclift has the same issue as the Scirocco in which case the timing chain tensioner can fail.

I would never buy a VAG product as they do nothing for me, but thats my personal preference.

Not a bad shout on the Volvo but was looking for something with a little more, and I hate using this phrase, "street cred". Couldn't think of another way of putting it.
