PPF or Clarity Coat?

So, I was all about ready to get my car paint protection film'd, annoyingly I'll need to pay extra because there just aren't templates available for it (more question on that in a sec).
However, my cousin has just linked to me something called Clarity Coat. Which is essentially a spray on PPF. Looks like it peels off like a film too. provides same level of protection. So far, seems to be only one company in the uk doing this as it also appears its so new it's only just come into the UK from the US.
Has anyone heard about Clarity Coat? Any experience of it?
I'm hoping its just as good as PPF and cheaper... but I'd like to know more about it than going in balls deep straight away.
Also, regarding vehicle wrapping... are they typically applied with templates as well or freehand? If freehand (which I'm certain I've seen done plenty of times on Youtube videos), what makes that different than applying a PPF film freehand?
People seem hesitant to apply PPF freehand because they'd be cutting it mid application on the car, putting a sharp knife near the paintwork. Isn't that the same as a vinyl wrap?
