How much damage will this have done?
Discussion
I think I may have stupidly put £25 worth of 95Ron fuel in my Civic which is mapped for vpower. It was driving fine (10 miles) before putting the fuel in.
It started intermittently stuttering around 3 miles from putting the fuel in so I pulled over where it almost immediately cut out. It started fine and managed to drive home with it intermittently stuttering but not cutting out.
From there I went out in my van and filled a jerrycan with vpower from another Shell and bought a bottle of nitrox octane booster which increases Ron by 2 supposedly (dubious about this.) This topped the tank off and I estimate there's roughly a 50/50 95ron/Vpower split.
It's idling slightly better but still occasionally cutting out, I haven't tried to drive it. Does this need to be drained or can I drive it gently for say a quarter of a tank at a time and top off with Vpower? what sort of damage is this doing?
I suppose it could be something else entirely but it seems coincidental that it starting happening a few miles from putting the fuel in.

I'd say it won't have done any damage what so ever.
Are you sure it wasn't diesel or water you put in ?
I'm going to go back to Shell for a receipt reprint for piece of mind. I'm almost certain I never put diesel or water in ( would it even run 50/50 diesel?) but a receipt will show if I put standard fuel in. Are you sure it wasn't diesel or water you put in ?

when you say mapped for vpower what do you mean?
its supercharged running 380bhp and was mapped for higher octane fuel. On boost maybe.
I’d say there was something wrong with the fuel or coincidentally something else went wrong.

I would be very surprised if 95 vs 98 had that much difference just driving around steadily.

it depends who mapped it and what octane they mapped to. They may have turned the safety parametres off so it was over these, and low octane could cause issues. On boost maybe.

Better drain tank fuel lines, get a ecu reader on it.
Had a few cars “mapped for v-power” - all it ever meant was that you’d get optimum performance on higher octane fuel. Doesn’t mean you can’t run on 95 periodically.
My Impreza was a bit lumpy if I ran it on 95 but was fine after I’d stuck momentum or v power in.
Dodgy fuel or something else if you’ve had big problems.

That's not how it works. My Impreza was a bit lumpy if I ran it on 95 but was fine after I’d stuck momentum or v power in.

You adjust the ignition timing specifically taking into account the higher octane.
There is not enough scope in most oem or "basic " aftermarket ecu to account for this as you cannot measure octane in any way with any sensor or similar.
If you run a car mapped on/for 98 or 99 on 95 you will blow it up. It might happen within 20 miles or might happen after 2000.
It will happen.
